Boy, Loveyouso sure can bring the crazy. I guess it's proof that you can take the JS commenter out of the their website, but you can't take the JS out of the commenter.
Guys, this is pretty simple to dissect. This team is not very good. Period. To think that the offense or free throws will magically come around is to live in a fantasy world where leprechauns and unicorns roam the land.
All we can be certain of at this point is that the team can play pretty good defense when inspired to do so. But all the defense in world won't make up for the consistently woeful offense. They look a little bit more lost with every passing day. Part of that's due to injury, part of that's coaching, and part of that is shear lack of talent.
I'm still going to follow the team with interest as I'm not a fair weather fan like Loveyouso, but let's be realistic about expectations.

Pretty much sums it up...it is what it is....Which sucks, considering the season we had last year...I wonder, though, if this will make FT ptg a much more big factor in recruiting now...

LMAO. Too true.... Loveyouso packed up his JS crazy and has moved in here at uwmfreak.proboards.com!! Yes..... But I'm crazy on the opposite spectrum, so I'm equally laughable. Do remember all.... 21-10 regular season and #1/#2 HLT seed are still within reach! ghostofdylan, please don't go and dampen my optimism! I just hope we can have a 2011-style "Valparaiso night of reckoning" moment and go on a tear... But the injuries are killing us. Kaylon looks more hobbled and gassed than I've ever seen him in his two seasons here- he needs rest. Allen has gone down in nearly each of the last 4 games (he would absolutely NOT have gotten dunked on like he did last night if he were 100%).. Ja'Rob isn't coming back (Lonnie's presence is also sorely missed). When we have to finish out a winnable game with Shaq and Meetch*, we might be in trouble (and that game was winnable, Kendrick Perry be damned- say we make 14-21 (66%) from the line instead of a measly 9(??!!)- bam, we're within 3 points (and a lot of those were 1 and 1's that we missed the front end of...). I wish the team could pull together and make a run, but the injuries are killing us (and remember all the talk of our "depth" this season? Yeesh. Maybe we should have let Panoske play right away? Either way, I think he has a bright future at Milwaukee. It just sucks that the time is now for Kaylon, Tony and Ryan and we are melting at the worst possible time. Gotta stop the bleeding Saturday.. Yes, I'm just putting out the usual spin.... Hey! at least the game was exciting for about 3-4 minutes at the end there when we figured out the zone took away YSU's offense, and the press can force turnovers we needed) but I'll admit, I'm more unsure of this team than at any point last season (at least last season we had bodies and a solid, healthy 9-10 man rotation. I'm not giving up though... Did Butler not have to win 4 games in the HLT last season before dropping the #1 seed to punch a ticket? I'm just saying... we're lucky we got off to a good start.. 20+ wins is actually very much within reach (7 games left (6 conference), and at least 1, potentially 4 HLT games...). We are 14-10, not 5-19... (or whatever Loyola is- they have to be scratching their heads (0-11?!!)- they might not win a game in the Horizon all season! That is of course.... unless we continue to play like we have 4 out of the past 5 games.. I am amazed that we are still in the conference race what with our offensive struggles. Underneath that shell of a Panther attack we saw last night is a team that can put up 65-70 points and win games... I think we've just only seen that team a handful of times this season (namely- @ DePaul). *at least they are getting experience, but these are games we really should have won- experience should be given to the new D-I guys when we are up 15 with 4 minutes left (if that would ever happen). But we only have so many players; the coaches don't really have a choice (suit up, Tone!!). At least Haggerty is showing us what he can do when he gets significant minutes- his dunk-block at near the end was one of the few bright spots last night- and he canned his only 3pt attempt.. Haggerty is better than a lot of people give him credit for (his defense has always been suspect, but he's showed although isn't the fastest guy on the team, he can hold down the fort down low on the defensive end). Shaq and Meetch have potential, but they need more experience. I'm not saying the coaches are without blame, but please people, look at what they have to work with. The zone all game might have helped cut down the 3's though (hindsight is 20-20)... (we knew that is YSU's game- they did the same thing in the 1st half at their place). Just my 2 cents. Hope we can pull out a win in Green Bay and get passed this terrible stretch.

It's a shame we won't get to see this team fully healthy for any point in this season.
Ja'Rob, Lonnie, Tony, Kyle, Evan have all missed games.
And now Ryan is playing on one good foot.

"Maybe we should have let Panoske play right away?" I don't know if that would have helped or not. I think it's more the loss of bodies at the 2-guard, shooting guard, wing G/F, whatever term you wish to use for that position. Started with Lonnie, then Ja'Rob, now Evan. At least two of those three were going to be counted on for significant minutes this year. One was a starter. The other, Evan, with his natural ability, looked like he was going to push them to play well or he would steal some of their minutes. By the way, some of us have figured out who you are, ghostpost. Welcome back!

For the record - if you think that injuries are the number one reason why we are in the position we are in, I would suggest that you may be living in the aforementioned land of unicorns, lollipops, rainbows, etc.
This team is what it is: Average.
The bottom line is that after beating Depaul, we were 8-1. Since then, we've gone 6-9 (5-9 if you exclude UNO).
The absolutely best case scenario, IMO, is that we can somehow win 4 of our final 6 league games and finish 11-7 and most likely in 4th place.
Much more likely for us to go 2-4 and finish 9-9, and hoping for a home game in the first round.
Ugh.....

Ok..going to beat a dead horse but once again I did not like the body language last night at all not only from the players but especially the head coach. In the second half he sat on the bench sometimes with his head in his hands looking down. He looked immature and the rest of the staff looked dejected and clueless. There were times in the first half in timeouts he stood far away from the team and looked ticked off and then finally came over and started reading everyone out. I know from listening to the post game show that AT said it is on the players and that is true but tell me that this type of attitude and body language from the coach does not impact and set a tone. Again, while Slocum at times raged at a call he did not pout and immediately got into discussions with the players rather than standing separate looking mad and frustrated. This ties into my concern overall about winning key games. I know we beat Butler but there are so many times in this regime where there is a big game that really counts and we look like deer in the headlights. Another thing that gets me. Rob on his radio show said they did not adjust to the zone against Valop and need to do that etc etc. Well, is it that complicated??? They certainly did not in the second half in that game and frankly I saw Rob spening most of his time arguing with the ofrficials, looking angry and then sitting on the bench just looking frustrated rather than spending the time with the assistants and the players trying to find a way to adjust. Fine to say that on your radio show.. Here is what my concern is. Seven years and has not won the tourney and gone to the dance other than the first year with no recruites of his own. Yeah, it is on the players but who recruits them?? I still think we have a chance this year but are going to have to well coached and adaptive if we get to the championship game and not freak out about the refs and go deer in the headlights. This is our year to make some hay. We lost Kaylon, Tony and Ryan and fram what I have seen coming up from behind especially at point guard and the 3 postion can not say we are going to be as good next year. How many more years without an NCAA bid?? This is getting old...I do not buy the injury excuse either. We have enough guys , just are they the right guys and are they being coached to their maximum?? Our offensive scheme or lack thereof is vexing and on-going.

I'd say this loss ranks up there with program low points. What an embarrassment. Aquitas is going to be going insane on the JS tomorrow. Thank goodness my free views come back! Delete your cookies

I just find it funny how many of these "get rid of Jeter" nuts are the same folks who said just 4 months ago "I'm glad he turned down Bradley, Miami, and Penn State."
Do us all a favor and go back to the nut house where you belong (JS Online)

Lou is correct, this is an average team. If the defense isn't carrying them, the offense doesn't have the ability to make up for it, because of either scheme or talent or both. And is anything done from a coaching standpoint to address the pitiful offense? Nope. All that's mentioned is getting back to "trusting each other." No mention of changing scheme or some tweaks here or there. Good luck with that.

On the bright side, if I read the boxscore correctly, Kaylon had no turnovers last night. The team looked like they still hadn't recovered from the Valpo loss. They just didn't match the energy of YSU for most of the game, and they completely lacked focus on defense. For a team built on defense it also really hurt us that Ryan Allen had such a sub-par game (I think he's just been beat to hell by how hard he plays and how many falls he's taken this year). Our horrific free throw shooting is also not just catching up to us but becoming an even bigger problem. Notwithstanding the comments above Rob made several adjustments during the game last night offensively -- and they worked -- except that the result was we got to the line more and we couldn't convert. It's definitely a low point for this group. I'd love to see them regroup but it's going to be very tough in the physical condition they are in. By the way, does anyone know if James is hurt? I was surprised he only played about 17 minutes last night. Last thought -- win or lose I enjoy every game for the rare opportunity of watching my team in action, and there's usually something great you can take from any game. Last night, it was Ryan Haggerty's catchup blocked shot on a YSU fast break. I think it was Eargle going for the basket. Haggs came out of the sky to pin it. Wow!

Agreed Fran. Haggs has been a joy to watch this year. His development is nothing short of remarkable considering where he was even a year ago. It's clear that he values being on the floor and, more often than not this season, he's made the most of his minutes.
There's no question that Allen is playing hurt. It's been evident the last few games and yet he still gives everything he has. I've said it before --- I'm going to really miss watching him play next year.
Hard to know about James. He was getting outworked last night on the boards, and that's pretty unusual.

Wow is all I can say. Never expected a win like that. Hopefully YSU can keep this up and do something in the tournament. I know, pipe dreams at best. Hopefully YSU bball can beat GB for you all.
