The WATTS will most likely host every conference indoor meet. YSU still gets some play in the Pitt and CLE markets and local Youngstown radio and TV give YSU all the media coverage.
The American East, NEC and Patriot League are all further and more expensive options for traveling. YSU would never rejoin the Summit as their departure from it to the HL combined with Valpo leaving a few years after have led to its demise as one of the worst conferences.
Keep in mind YSU is more in line academically with many of the Horizon League schools, then they would be with the smaller schools at the 3 conferences. America East is the only conference where they would fit in as a size and institution standpoint. But YSU would be stupid to leave the HL for trips to Vermont, Main, Boston etc. YSU would instantly be the biggest school in the PL, and the only public school outside of the military academy. Same can be said for the MAAC and NEC.
Just saying those would be huge obstacle in departing for a conference. I don't like being in the HL anymore then you do, but it is what it is and makes sense from a travel and education standpoint. I don't think YSU can ever be a consistent winner until the basketball budget is increased. But I wouldn't mind ruining some "basketball schools" seasons during our time.

After seeing YSU last Friday... I have no problem with them in our conference. They are balling- light years ahead of where they usually are.

Ghostpost, if you're going to change your opinion about a program because they're three games above .500, you should reassess that change.
JJ, I very much like being a member of the Horizon League. I just don't like sharing the conference with an inferior in-state school and a school that doesn't share the same athletics goals as literally every other school in the conference.

I bet every other women's basketball program in the Horizon League would like to get that "inferior" in-state school out of the Horizon League.

I think I posted that in a state of sleep-medication-induced intoxication (I'm a textbook severe insomniac.. what can ya do? ). But.... you have to admit YSU is leaps and bounds from where they were at just one year ago. It may have just been that home crowd (joke..), but the 'Guins looked solid in the 1st half of that game... But I guess that's what happens when you have what WILL BE your statistically best offensive performance (at least 1st half) of the entire season.... Man- can't we replay YSU and CSU? Oh wait (glances to schedule)...... Awwww sheeeeeeeeeet. Quick tangent- did anyone else notice the carboard cut-out student section above the CSU band at the Wolstein Center Sunday? That was rather weird, but funny at the same time).

Speaking of sleep deprivation- ever wonder where I find all the time to write a fricking (underground) blog on my favorite sports team (all sports- all teams- bar none: MILWAUKEE PANTHERS). That reminds me... I've been pretty lazy lately....

I guess it's a regional thing, and the Horizon League is more of a midwest conference. People in NE Ohio care about the Big 10, MAC, Big East and A10.
YSU is playing very solid basketball this season, however it will be impossible to sustain. The budget will not allow YSU to have a consistent winning program.
Just to show you the difference between basketball and football. YSU pays Butler and VALPO around $100,000+ just to play one football game in Youngstown. It's crazy.
The men's basketball side might not line with many of the HL schools, but the academic side does.
YSU will have a decent team 2-3 teams every decade. in 06-07 they were something like 14-16 and beat 3 NCAA tournament teams. This year, hopefully they'll finish above .500.
In the meantime, we'll just make Milwaukee happy by beating the hell out of Greenbay!

The sad thing is that saying YSU will have a decent basketball team 2-3 times a decade might be wildly optimistic. The current high-water mark (hopefully beaten this year) is that 5th place out of 9 team in 06-07.
I hope that the guarantee paid to BU and VU for football shows the people here just what you can have in a I-AA program at Milwaukee. But that's down the road.
Once we get our facilities in line, it's going to be beat down time.

Well, I am not sure whether you are referring to the first or second law of thermodynamics, but it seems to me neither quite says that.
