I should add that we should certainly run any time we have a breakaway advantage. Wisconsin does that too. I'm just saying that those opportunities will be extremely rare. Trying to run when we don't have any advantage? That either won't happen or won't succeed.

Last close game between these two teams was 2005, a 74-68 Badgers win. We controlled tempo that game and would have won if not for some of the worst homer calls I've ever seen. That was the last time we scored 60 in a game against them, all easy Badgers victories. If we get into the 60's, I like our chances. In the 70's, I love our chances.

A little off topic, but with all the superlatives being thrown Bucky's way, how good is Marquette to have beat them at the Kohl Center? I didn't get to see the game, had to follow play by play on the smart phone. It seemed liked every time there was an update it was Marquette scoring in the paint or a short two pointer (they only made two threes that game) and UW launching threes.
Hopefully UNI wasn't a sign. What esxactly did Marquette do to beat Bucky with only two three point shots made? Can we match what Marquette did? Woudl that give us a chance.
Unfortunately I will not be at the game. Sucks that the school schedules an event tonight. But as I tell the kids, school is more important than sports. I will get to catch the end of the first half and the second half, so I guess all is not lost.

Cut off the head (Taylor) and there goes the bleeding red. JT in foul trouble and I feel the odds will be slightly in our favor. Its what we do when he's on the bench. I would prefer that UW-Madison (yeah how does it feel to be hyphened bucky lovers!) throws up some garbage 3's tonight and I like our chances even more...but honestly, free throws will decide this game...trust me.

Yeah, we were down 20 in the 1st Half with Joah on the bench with two fouls when Boo went off. I seem to recall a horsesh*t call on Adrian later in the game as well.

I didn't see the whole game as that was the day we played UIC and by the time I got home the game was well under way, but I think the answer to your question is that MU is pretty damn good. DJO had a great game from what I saw. Marquette, like UNC, used its length and depth to bother UW's shooters, and Taylor was obviously hobbled, which helped the cause. But basically MU won with great defense. As in every other game this year, UW's defense was more than good enough to win, and held MU way under their normal scoring.

Boo Davis could not miss that game. I remember very distinctly, Boo Davis hitting a turnaround 3-pointer, and I'm not even sure he was looking at the basket.
Oh the good old days, in my freezing house on the corner of Kenwood and Maryland.....

Based upon available information, here's my advice for the Panthers:
Let it rip tonight, have fun, fly all over the court and make us proud.

Do we know for sure that JaRob will be back tonight?
If so, I'm starting to think that MAYBE losing Kelm for the night isn't as awful as I originally thought. This is me being optimistic, but hear me out...
What do we need most from Kelm in a game against the Badgers? I would argue defense, I think if Milwaukee wins, it will be because of our shooting, our guard play, and our ability to minimize exploitation in the front court from UW's bigs. I doubt very much that Kyle would have had a large impact from and offensive standpoint, but could have offered size and defense in the post.
With him out, I think Tony gets more minutes, possibly 35+ (barring foul issues), and Haggerty gets a significant amount of time on the blocks. Haggerty is a often brought in as a defensive specialist, and hustle player. I think all we can ask from Hags and Haarsma this game is; play solid defense, hustle, crash the boards, and give the other players on the court an opportunity to win this game.
In short, I think what Kyle offers over Haggerty (athletisicm and offensive prowess), would have been largely negated by the Badgers in this game. Just my opinion.
I would feel much better with JaRob back. He is an offensive spark, and has the potential to be the most lethal scoring threat on the floor for the Panthers. He can be deadly from outside, but still offers good penetration and a great mid-range jumper. Last year against the Badgers JaRob, a sophomore, scored 12 points on 6-12 from the floor. Its interesting to note that all of those points were off of made 2pt field goals. He was able to get to the rack or find open shots within the Badgers infamous defense. He also scored 19pts against Marquette last year on 8-13 from the floor. So JaRob can definitely pour it on when playing very talented teams.
Like I said I'm being optimistic, but in my mind I think we still have a shot. Losing Kyle for the game is still awful, but I think it's went from totally awful to just largely awful.
Panthers grind it out
