I wouldn't consider a victory against DePaul a "big" non-conference win. I expect this team to beat MU, Wisconsin, or both this year. Swept again and I will be VERY disappointed. I never said it would be "big" win. Someone was talking about a BCS league school and said UW & MU and forgot DePaul. I do think it would be a nice road win.

There was NOTHING satisfactory about this. We had a chance to make this a game, and we rolled over and got our asses kicked in the second half. I'm f-ing tired of moral victories. Word.

MSU pushed it to 13 on that second half run. Final margin: 13. Satisfactory. MSU is going to beat a lot of high major teams by 13 this year. Oh, and Ja'Rob had 2 more steals. The victory train rolls on! That second half wasn't satisfactory. I don't care if we were playing Michigan St. Terrible rebounding, terrible offensive execution, no urgency to start the half (again).

A whole lot of positives tonight, beyond just that we were never intimidated and played close enough to make the entire MSU board get red with anger.
Every starter had an assist.
Haarsma: 13 points, 8 rebounds.
Shaquille Boga, against his toughest competition yet, had his best game. 8 points, 4 boards, 2 dimes in 15 excellent minutes.
Defensive performance was phenomenal once more. MSU shot 43.8%, and if it weren't for how f**king huge they are -- and what a phenom Draymond Green is -- it would have been worse. MSU only had 2 players score double figures, and both of them are hulking man-giants.
it's a cliche, yes, but if this game had been later in the year, it would have been different. Our bench is too inexperienced to beat a team like this on the road, but down the line -- Tournament, anyone? -- will be much, much better.

You wouldn't expect that if you have watched either of those teams play, Lou. Both are better than last year, and without Tony, we are not as good. I've watched them both play, Fran. Both are very good basketball teams. I just expect to win games. I don't think that's a radical point of view. I sure hope that our coaches and players expect to win every time we step on the floor. I am fairly certain that everyone associated with Butler thinks that they'll win every game. Why shouldn't we?

A) no Tony Meier, B) four of our 5 significant bench players are newcomers. One extra thing I think: Our players are beyond the days of lose-and-feel-good-about-yourself against Marquette, et al. Our guys are going to be smoking mad about this.

Are you suggesting that its OK if our coaches and players expect to lose? Its one thing to accept a loss after the fact. Another to expect it from the outset.

Of course they didn't expect to lose, and they played like it. But there are legitimate and understandable reasons why they did lose.

I remember when Northwestern's football motto was "Expect Victory." Didn't do them much good. Talent and execution are, oh, about 100 times more important than pop psychology jingles.
I expect my team to play hard and play well. We did that for a half tonight. Build on it and get better. I like the look of this team and am very optimistic.

We don't set any screens for Evan. That doesn't seem to be a part of the offense.

I can't seem to get an answer....were these Big 10 refs or HL refs.....or didn't it matter.

Big 10. It was Ed Hightower's crew. Oddly enough.

I didn't like all the offensive foul calls but the foul disparity was legit. That's what happens when you are playing bigger, quicker teams that are well coached. I hear MSU's coach is pretty good.
Hard to blame the officials for all the passes we sailed out of bounds or our failure to take advantage of the hard hedge and double game MSU was playing. That wouldn't have worked as well if any of our two guards had been able to hit a single outside shot.
