They forgot the letter S in Wisconsin. That's just a typo. The real problem lies in the terrible copy this name brings. At least ESPN gets it...but it really irks me that even the LOCAL media still don't recognize the Milwaukee Panthers...seems the only ones are ESPN, Dennis Krause, and Bill Johnson.

This is mainly my fault, but a lot of people on the d-board have a negative reaction towards the name discussion. The reason for that is because it's a topic that's been run over a million times, but the bad part is that people have mistaken that ire for believing it's a non-issue.
This is a real problem, brand identity is a huge part of marketing.

My sources say his disciplinarianism and ties to Big Ten football have made him the front-runner.

I think Jeter ate at an IHOP in Columbus once, so obviously he has Columbus roots.

Lets call the Penn St. job what it really is at this point in time, a stepping stone from E. Tennessee St. to Navy. Conference affiliation likely gifted them a spot into the NCAA tournament last year, but its not going to gift them a good coach.
I will give Penn St. credit where credit is due. They are LIKELY a top 10 basketball program in the state of Pennsylvania.

I seriously doubt that Jeter will be interested in Penn State if they don't significantly bump the head coach and assistant salaries, as well as increase marketing for the basketball program.
They've shown so much faith in their basketball program that they have put far more effort into two other winter sports, ice hockey and wrestling. That women's basketball is more successful and volleyball has larger crowds doesn't help the men's basketball team as they try to land the next big coach.

Nothing like an uninformed blogpost.
There are maybe ten or at the outside fifteen collegiate head coaching jobs that are not "stepping stone" jobs. And coaches sometimes even leave those jobs voluntarily.

We could help shed our stepping stone job status by recognizing what the men's basketball program is, which is the most far-reaching marketing for the university, and move marketing dollars into the marketing, recruiting, and operations budgets of the men's basketball program.
Will it ever be gone? No, not until we enter a high-major conference (should that ever happen), but we can at least curb it somewhat. Penn State can't shake a stick at Brad or Shaka Smart because their respective schools have moved beyond Penn State in expenses.

One man's stepping stone is another man's destination.
On the one hand, there's College of Charleston legend John Kresse.
On the other, there's Larry Brown, who belongs to the world.

Funny that the JS is acknowledging this rumor, but chose to not report the Miami rumor.
Where are those clamoring that this isn't a story?
