"No" on Gard, sorry Steve. And since Costello has no ties to UW, I would guess (and hope) he'd widen the net. +1,000,000

I think what we have to do as a fan base is sit back and take a look at Miami since they joined the ACC in 04-05. One NCAA tournament, one year of .500 ACC ball. That was their NCAA tourney year, when they went to the second round. They've finished 5th - once, and that year they tied to do it. Despite winning 20 games this year, they failed to make the NCAA Tournament - again. Sure, the ACC gets multiple bids every year, but when two of them are nearly guaranteed to Duke and UNC, that number looks less impressive (I realize UNC was in the NIT last year). They care so much about this poor showing that they were ready to keep Frank Haith around as long as he wanted. Their attendance is probably doubled on exaggeration. Keep in mind the season also happens when it's 80 degrees outside. Are students going to go to games or the tiki bar on the beach? Same with other fans. Canes baseball and football are outside, and a totally different story. There's a reason they don't have hockey down there - no one would go. No offense, Canes fans on the board. But I'm just not sold on the U as a logical landing point. Why, because his friend is the new AD? Because Donna Shalala is the President? Knowing how things were with Iowa State in 2006, I'm confident in his return. If he doesn't, I'll be surprised and disappointed, but it's not the end of the world and I'm sure it would be a supportive situation from the AD and President's standpoint. Because Mike Lovell and Rick Costello haven't been supportive of Jeter in their time at Milwaukee And you can forget support from the donors, fans and media, who have all but marched on the university demanding they hire Frank Martin. You know, the Latino from Miami who went to FIU and went to the Elite Eight in 2010...where, he lost to, a HORIZON League team. Don't get me wrong, I understand why Shalala may be against the idea of Martin. But do you really want to be Rob Jeter, standing at the podium as you're introduced to a room of people that don't want you? I'm know I wouldn't want to be that guy. We'll see. If he goes, best of luck to him and the Hurricanes have gained a fan from afar a la many of our current posters cheering for Bruce at Tennessee the past few years. But I think he belongs here for the time being, and I think he knows that too.

Your adding to my point even more why Jeter would not get the "U" jumping for joy with the hire.
"Thug U" needs to make a splash and hire Martin.

Reading their Scout message board has been entertaining how pathetically desparate they are for Martin. If Jeter does go to "da U" it'll be a very entertaining meltdown.

"I think he knows that too." Really? I don't know Jeter enough to know what he thinks.
Much of this depends on how someone lives, do they want to stay in a comfortable situation or take a chance on a situation that has risk but also substantial reward.
Jeter appears to have backing from the AD and those who offer large financial support to the program. If Jeter can continue to have seasons like last year there is no reason to believe the support will waiver. So one would expect the current contract to be extended or renegotiated for as long as Jeter desires to stay. This puts Jeter in a comfortable situation.
The Miami job has risk, but has substantial rewards. Current rewards are a relatively new arena and a new practice facility. Win, get somewhere in the NCAA tournament, put Miami basketball on the map and you will have a huge payday. If Buzz Williams can command over 2M per year for a sweet sixteen appearance, Jeter could get the same at Miami if he can do he same thing. Lose and you are the next Todd Lickliter.

There are countless thought-provoking elements to all sides of this story.
It's dumbfounding that not a drop of ink has been spilled by the J-S on any of this.

It's seems about right in how J-S works, isn't that paper always a week late on a story.

The Magicman thinks this is a bunch of bumsquat! You might ask what bumsquat is? Bumsquat is when a man takes his tallent to South Beach. Does he have enough tallent with in himself to make a difference in south beach? Who am I to judge? I am not a judge.... I am the Magicman.

I think Enlund is asleep and doesn't realize there is a story to write. I guess the J-S is going to let ESPN and the Miami Herald handle this story.

The Magicman thinks Coach Jeter is blowing smoke out of the Magicmans hat. Or should I say Miami's AD is trying to pull some magic out of his new AD kangol?

My sources tell me that Jeter is not going anywhere and that he's going to Ohio to lock up Nance. ;D

I hear that the news is promising as it pertains to both Paris and Larry, Jr.
Let's keep everything intact and make an NCAA tournament run next year!

It's seems about right in how J-S works, isn't that paper always a week late on a story. Honestly, is this a story yet? Yes. sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=6364568If Rob's been contacted about the job, it's a story. If he's interviewed for the job, it's a story. Certainly if he's been offered the job, it's a story. Whether you love this news, hate it or feel totally indifferent, it's newsworthy and so indisputably warrants some coverage. Of course, despite the gains of the last few years, UWM athletics still isn't covered as a beat by the J-S and so things like this fall through the cracks. Sad for a school with an enrollment of 30,000, one with 100,000 alumni in the greater metro area.
