I'd rather have a coach with D2 or D3 experience than an assistant. like Mike Krzyzewski, Roy Williams, Shaka Smart or Brad Stevens I didn't realize that every single assistant immediately coached at that caliber. You can offer extreme examples both ways. I've given my opinion and nothing else.

You know, with the timing of this as it pertains to recruiting, I'm really leaning hard toward strongly suggesting that we elevate our lead recruiter and most dynamic "people" person. In essense, go the Buzz Williams route.
This would ensure that we keep our incoming class intact (they're all Boudreau's guys anyway) and maintain continuity with some significant philosophical tweaks.
Good luck, Rob, with whatever you decide.

I don't know, road trips to Cleveland St and Youngstown or Durham and Chapel Hill? And a potential tripling of salary to boot?

I was simply implying that if the credentials appear to be similar, I'd prefer a coach with head coaching experience. I also agree that we need someone that would be considered dynamic. The face of our program needs to be someone who can also market it. I guess if that means an internal hire (if he's the most qualified), then why not? It'd be nice to keep the recruiting class.

Hey all...I come in peace. Just stopping to get a better idea what we could expect if indeed Jeter is named coach down here (offensive and defensive philosophies, recruiting, community relations, etc.). Just don't get a lot of Panther games down here so I only know of him what ive read and heard from Badger fans who were there when he was an assistant.
We are a middle-tier ACC program that with the right coach in place, can really catapult ourselves into a consistent tourney team and possibly beyond. We have an on-campus arena that's eight years old and just built a brand new practice facility. As you can probably understand from being in a pro sports city, the fans show up when we win, simple as that. Haith was an average (at best head coach) who consistently put an unprepared and underwhelming product on the floor during his time here. He recruited a pretty high level, but never seemed to get the most out of those guys and worse, never developed them correctly. From what I can conjure up, Jeter had to essentially rebuild your program from scratch after Pearl's players left and has done a fantastic job of that.

Hey, Hoosiercane. Please have Miami hire him. Jeter is not a good coach and a lot of recruits were horrible. Jeter has made this a very average program. If anyone on this board thinks that Jeter will be able to compete against DUKE and UNC, you are insane. If Miami is smart they would hire Martin who is a good coach and a great recruiter.
-Please, please hire Jeter.

Fan22 I really hope you are kidding or this thread is about to get extremely far off topic. In Jeter I trust.

We have an on-campus arena that's eight years old and just built a brand new practice facility. Why the claims by various people in the media that Miami needs to care more about basketball? A new on campus arena and new practice facility appear to show a lot of care for the program. Is it just the media or a certain coach that is full of crap? Is it that the University does care but just hasn't found the right coach.

No, I am not joking around. I have been going to games since Rick Antrim. I have seen the program go through Rick Cobb, Bo Ryan, Bruce Pearl and now Jeter.
I was a season ticket holder for several years. I support the program and want the best for it.
Again, I don't think Jeter is a good coach and I think he will be in way over his head in the ACC.
I don't understand my comment before is a joke?

I was a season ticket holder for several years. I support the program and want the best for it. I don't know if your statement earlier was a joke, but I laughed at these two sentences being put together. For me, the Black and Gold is bigger than any coach. They are, essentially, caretakers of OUR program. I'm assuming you dropped your season tickets after one of Jeter's two poor years of 06-07 and 07-08, so forgive us if we can't take you seriously - we watched what you call "not a good coach" and "horrible" win a conference championship and come within a poor shooting night (against the National Runner-up) of the NCAA Tournament. As someone who has supported coach Jeter very much, I would be disappointed to see him leave, although I do understand that Miami's deep pockets will change the lives of he and his family.

I have been going to games since Rick Antrim. Who is Rick Antrim? Do you mean Steve Antrim? If so, you are saying that you have been attending games since you were 5? Impressive.
