I don't think the problem would be money for Jeter. The problem is what it has ALWAYS been - facilities.
Our current facilities can't compete with Bradley's. We can't compete with where we are, we need a commitment to athletics and we need it TONIGHT.

There are a number of components to this story that make me nervous. Costello throwing more money at Jeter a la Bud in 2006 is one of them. As one of my friends on the board told me maybe Jeter is looking elsewhere because Costello is not throwing money at him, ie. no extension.

Jimmy, it starts and ends with money. If it were about facilities, Jeter would have been in Ames the past five years.
If this rumor has legs, I hope Costello has Keno Davis in his Rolodex.

I think we're gonna find out exactly what Costello is made of with this situation.

I know this is going to sound trite...but if Jeter gets taken by Bradley, just how mistaken would we be in keeping in touch with Bruce Pearl?

BP...your posts are making me nervous. You are a lot closer to this situation than most of us and the tone of your posts is making me nervous.

I'd also like to point out that as much as we like Rob Jeter, he has never won a postseason tournament game with his recruits, and has never been to the NCAA Tournament with his own players. I don't know if Bradley isn't hedging their bets really, really hard here.

I know this is going to sound trite...but if Jeter gets taken by Bradley, just how mistaken would we be in keeping in touch with Bruce Pearl? You mean Bruce back here? Highly doubt that ... 1. I think he's going to take some time off and lay low for a year or two (at least in coaching). 2. I don't think too many programs are going be going after him while he's "hot" (funny how that comes full-circle?). 3. Would feel like a dog who ran loose from the house and is coming back inside with his tail between his legs after getting yelled at.

I don't think the university would be well-served by throwing a few more years and a few hundred-thousand more dollars Rob's way. Five years left on a remaining contract is plenty generous, especially for a program averaging 3000 fans/game. Not to mention the fact that we could go through this song and dance every year much the same way Marquette did with Tom Crean for years. You're right Jimmy, we will definitely see what kind of guy Costello is if this starts to get hot.

If anyone thinks there won't be more than one party interested in hiring Pearl next year they're mistaken. He's well-liked.
As for Jeter, I bet at least one long conversation with Bo Ryan is in his immediate future.

I just don't we'd be one of them. It would have to take a perfect storm of scenarios ... 1. Obviously Rob leaving (we're still really early here) 2. Pearl would have to show interest ... would he hold out for a higher profile job to come back along? 3. New administration (a new chancellor and a new AD) will have to put their faith in Bruce that he "learned his lesson."

But as Jimmy and others mentioned, our facilities are outdated and our arena is the garbage of the other team in this city. It goes back to what I've been saying about the whole product. It's some of the same things that keep fans from attending games that are holding us back right now.
