Well, I personally know Josh. Milwaukee definitely wasn't his second choice. As others have said, he was very close to signing with Northwestern. After that, the next school on his list was Northern Iowa to play with his buddy Chip Rank. Also, UWM wasn't among Chip's top 3. Not that it matters, but his top 3 were Northern Iowa, Miami (Ohio), and Green Bay. As much as you don't like to hear this, it will always be extremely difficult for Milwaukee to get players that UW offers. Their the state school and have built a great program. Milwaukee will have to make the tourney for 10 straight years or so to have the same kind of success as UW, and it still might be hard after that. Then I had bad info. It happens. Doesn't change the fact that we've recruited against Wisconsin in many instances, and it hurts our program when people attend our games wearing their Bucky clothes. I agree with this. It's neither difficult nor expensive to purchase a UWM shirt.

From Andy Katz ...
Butler and Wisconsin may have as many NBA draft picks as any other team left in the field outside of North Carolina, Duke, Ohio State, Kentucky and Kansas. Butler and Wisconsin didn't get to the Sweet 16 solely because each team plays hard, defends, runs solid offensive sets and has experienced players. Watching the players, talking to NBA personnel and comparing who is currently still playing in the NBA, it's clear to see that Butler's Howard and Mack are legit NBA role players, as are Wisconsin's Taylor and Jon Leuer. No one said they're all-stars, but these four players will earn quality paychecks at the next level.
Good luck in the NBA, Matt, Shelvin, Jon and Jordan!

Back to the discussion at hand. Did anyone else hear Bill Johnson call Butler "UW Lite."
Steve Haywood is giving absolutely no recognition to Butler or BYU in discussing the road that lies ahead for UW's on it's way to the final four.

Yes, hard to say that when Wisconsin hasn't been to a national championship game since 1941 ... and Butler has.

Butler's program is very much like Wisconsin's. You'd have to be looking for an insult (or be enormously thin-skinned) to have any problem with what Bill said. It was obviously meant as a compliment. It is a compliment.

Well, Steve Haywood really shouldn't be commenting on college hoops at all. I wouldn't really listen to anything he had to say on the topic.

Yes, hard to say that when Wisconsin hasn't been to a national championship game since 1941 ... and Butler has. Slight correction. Wisconsin has never been to a national championship game. They did win the equivilant to our current NIT back in 1941. Anyways back to the now. I keep hearing people say that first team to 50 wins, but Wisconsin has been shooting the lights out for them, and Butler executing near flawlessly. I expect it in the 70's and a good game. Go Bulldogs!!! Fight fight fight for Milwaukee's 20 large!

If Shelvin Mack shoots 38% Wisconsin will win.

It is a compliment. If anything, Milwaukee is UW Lite. Butler has it's own identity. Comments like that simply provide more motivation to a team that doesn't need to be given additional motivation. I can see a comment like this motivating Butler the way Anthony Hill's tweet about putting on the title belt motivated Butler (Mack in particular).

If UW put up 33 points the other night, I think Mack can shoot 35% and Butler win. Butler's turning into that team that when you look at the matchup on paper, you don't like them against many of these teams they're playing. Then they get going and someone has a great night and Butler pulls out a close game because they believe in themselves. I'm done doubting the Butler, but I think Whiskey's bigs will cover the pick up top better and actually get a hand up.

I don't have a problem with people rooting for other programs. What I DO have a problem with is UWM students who are essentially ashamed of their own university and alma mater and will ONLY root for Wisconsin or Marquette. These are the people who never go to the basketball games, have no idea who Rob Jeter is, and can't name a single player on the team. They treat UWM like a community college, go home for the weekend, and root for the Badgers without paying any attention to the Panthers. That's what has always bugged me. Other programs have escaped the shadow of the flagship institution, so why can't UWM? See I don't have a problem with this at all. You cannot force fandom on people. For many people college is just a stop on the way to a career, that's it. They don't want to join any groups or become involved in supporting the basketball tem. I didn't care about UWM basketball when I was at UWM. I went to a handful of games my freshman year because some friends were suitemates of Craig Greene and we wanted to suport him but I really felt no connection to the team just because I was a student there. Lets not keep bashing those people who don't support UWM and work on getting those who do support them to get their assses to some games! Also, GO BUCKY! I like Butler and would root for them in any other game, including Marquette, but not against the Badgers.

buppie, Wisconsin was in fact the true national champion in 1941, winning the NCAA tournament in its third year of existence. By the way, an interesting bit of trivia: the first Championship Game (in 1939) was played in the same gym where the last game of our current season was played -- at McGaw Hall in Evanston. Oregon won the first NCAA championship.
By the way, I would have no problem with calling Wisconsin "Butler lite" except it wouldn't make sense since Wisconsin is so much bigger than Butler physically, which I believe is the point Bill was probably making.

Normally I'd vote for Butler but knowing that a Butler loss will end Matt Howard's college career I have to say "f*** 'em Bucky!"
