Tough ending for Butler. The shots just wouldn't drop. Credit UConn's defense for a lot of that. Very intensely played game.
Slime beats Honor.
Or was it sleaze beats Honor? I can never remember which one UConn is and which one Kentucky is.
This is one reason the tournament has always been somewhat secondary to me. The NCAA and everyone else (particularly the media types who fawn over the pirates like Calhoun and Calipari) know exactly what's going on. But they don't care and they don't do anything about it.
Anyway, I'm very proud that the Milwaukee Panthers tied the Butler Bulldogs for the Horizon League Championship. It's a credit to two programs that do it the right way.

What's the most frustrating is that Butler played well enough to win in every aspect besides shooting. They forced turnovers and bad shots on defense and were able to get some good shots in on offense, running their offense well. They missed free throws, bunnies, and 3's. Another day, they very easily could have won.
But that's not how the tournament works, nor should it. You get your chance and it's up to you to use it. Ask yourself this, though; How many people will be saying Butler finally got exposed tomorrow, and how many would have said the same thing if it was UConn who had the worst shooting night of their lives?
I would congratulate UConn here, but I can't. As King alluded to, they're no better than Auburn football.

ESPN just showed a list of the worst shooting performances in a championship game ever, which included the 1941 Wisconsin Badgers, who won the game. Shooting 25%. Absurd.

He gets paid big money to win at any cost, and if that cost is some of his integrity, won't bother him at all. And this just gives more of an argument to guys like Pearl and Calipari, that in the end it is hard to win it all while staying clean.

Cleveland State, tied for the title as well. He was pointing out programs that do it the "right" way. I wouldn't assume anything, but Gary Waters isn't the most likable guy.

I don't know if CSU does it the right or wrong way. Far as I know the NCAA is not after CSU. Still, congrats to UConn. What a run for them in the Big East and NCAA toury.

Sorry for this, but have to throw it in here. At least the Butler got the chance that the BCS will keep Boise State from getting.

As bad as I wanted Butler to win, this doesn't have the sting that the Boise State loss to Nevada provided. Not trying to hijack the thread, but that loss shouldn't have stung that much. If Boise State would have ran the table they would have played TCU for the second straight year in a BCS bowl. The BCS will not let Boise St. play in the national championship because should they win, it would put an end to the gravy train. Look at what happened with the Fiesta Bowl, the guy was getting paid 600,000 (equal to what the CEO of United Way makes) to facilitate one game a year, yet still fired for misappropriating funds. As K-raw mentioned, a lot of people who know about Uconns alter alias team sleazeball will wake up feeling sick today, but at least we have a system where good has a chance to prevail over evil. Mid-Majors will get into that game more often, and maybe next time the shots will fall. I wouldn't be surprised to see Butler get another shot next year.

BTW you don't need some high flying athletes to win the Nat Champ. Who was dukes most athletic player last year? Kyle Singler?
A lot of people hate on the dukies, but I don't. Coach K has been winning the "Mid Major" way for some time now. He recruits quality people who are skilled players, he does it without violations, and retains the majority for 4 years developing their skills and leadership over time.

What could've been for Butler. If they shoot 30% for the game, they win the title.

What could've been for Butler. If they shoot 30% for the game, they win the title. That's crazy when you think about it. It is a little impressive that they didn't get blown out after hitting only 3 2-pointers the whole game. Its very unprecedented for one team to shoot so poorly in a title game, let alone both struggle so mightily. I know Superking mentioned that in '41 Wisconsin and Wash St. both shot below 25%, but that's comparing apples and oranges when you consider the most talented teams were divided between the NCAA and NIT teams at the time, overall talent favoring the NIT. This years game supposedly matched the 2 best/hottest teams in the nation.

Yes, Coach K has won with players who are not the most gifted athletes.
