I was trying to spell fallacio to mock Ken Pom's rating the power conference teams so high, and came across that thread of losers.
Maybe my idea of humor is a little out of it. Or a sign that I'm crazy...whatever, just thought these guys were pathetic.

I'm sorry ... I'm having a hard time understanding how this guy has North Texas, with an RPI of 136 at 22-11 and 8-8 in the 23rd-ranked Sun Belt, has moved UP to the NCAAs. EDIT: I see that he has North Texas receiving the Sun Belt automatic. Doesn't realize that UALR won the Sun Belt tournament.

In order to truly tackle the NIT field, I think we must first project who might comprise the field. BP's done a good job of presenting the automatic qualifiers, so let's take a look at some likely at-large candidates. Keep in mind that programs like Northwestern and Oregon can still play their way into the Big Dance. Remember that since the NCAA took over selection of the NIT field, it has been more RPI-driven than the NCAAs.
Big Ten 56 Penn State 57 Michigan 75 Minnesota 91 Northwestern
Big 12 87 Nebraska 90 Baylor
Mountain West 72 New Mexico
ACC 60 Clemson 64 Virginia Tech 73 Miami (Fla.)
SEC 39 Georgia 80 Mississippi 82 Alabama
Pac-12 65 California 70 USC 76 Washington State
C-USA 28 UAB or 38 Memphis 51 Marshall 54 Southern Miss 63 UTEP 66 UCF 83 Tulsa
A-10 59 Richmond 79 Dayton 94 Duquesne 97 Rhode Island
CAA 50 VCU 74 Drexel 86 Hofstra 88 James Madison
Horizon 43 Cleveland State 68 Valparaiso
Missouri Valley 62 Wichita State
MAAC 69 Iona
SoCon 71 College of Charleston
With the field set at 32 teams and eight having already clinched qualification, that leaves 35 candidates for 24 spots. My guess is that the bottom three eligible teams from C-USA, the lower two from the A-10 and the last two from the CAA can be pared, leaving 28 teams for 24 spots.
At that point, my guess is that Northwestern (91), Baylor (90), Valparaiso (68) and Iona (69) will be left out, leaving us with our field of 32, assuming no further losses by regular-season champions.

Illinois lost today to Michigan, and hasn't looked the greatest down the stretch. What a dream matchup that would be should they miss the NCAA, which is now a possibility. Not only do we match up well but it would be a short trek to see the team play again.

Bethune-Cookman lost, so that gives them an auto NIT bid ... and would bump Milwaukee up to 7 in that NITology projection.

Bethune-Cookman lost, so that gives them an auto NIT bid ... and would bump Milwaukee up to 7 in that NITology projection. In my NITology, I've also got Milwaukee ahead of Vermont and Fairfield. And, frankly, I've got us ahead of College of Charleston. Their Tennessee victory is good, but their other top 100 victories were 90+. They've got a couple real quizzical losses. As of right now, I've got Milwaukee at a 7 and hopefully a six. Bethune-Cookman's loss is good, now we're hoping for some more.
