Williams should have been taken out for longer than 2 minutes, at least to calm his damn nerves. He did more damage on the court than good, in my opinion. 38 minutes of playing time with no points and six turnovers. I also think that a couple of the turnovers that were charged to Ant were actually the result of a nasty feed from Williams.
Before anyone jumps down my throat, I understand that Williams had a big part in getting the team to the Championship game. But, he faltered when the team needed him most and it was very clear last night. The entire team was out of sync and they couldn't get anything going, save for a few minutes in the second half.
I'm not taking anything away from Butler because they did what they needed to do when it mattered most: Mack and Howard stepped up big and their defense shut Milwaukee down.

As was stated by uwm97, Butler absolutely exposed our biggest weakness: Lack of quality depth at point guard.
Their game plan was superb: Rather than try to guard and stop Anthony Hill, they chose to aggressively guard the perimeter by focusing on stopping our high ball screens. They defended brilliantly all night long and simply did not allow us to run the offense as it was designed.
And as much as I agree that Kaylon struggled, I really don't know what other option we had other than keeping him in. We simply have no one else that can handle the ball. Not McCallum, not Ajami, not Boyle, not Boga, not Allen, not anyone.
In hindsight, I would have liked to see Kaylon sit and see if he could have gathered himself a bit, but at the time, I wasn't seeing any real options.
Also: The fact that none of our other players on the court were able to handle the ball didn't help either. Butler beat us the way other teams have beaten us this year - with constant pressure.

Williams should have been taken out for longer than 2 minutes, at least to calm his damn nerves. Not trying to be flippant, but who would you have subbed into the game for an extended run -- Patrick Souter or Jerard Ajami? As 97 (and now Lou) have noted, this was an Achilles' heel for the team the entire season. I hope some relief is provided next year by Shaq Boga.

As well as we defended Butler the last game, they defended us even better last night. It was a clinic. As Lou said, their perimeter defense was spectacular, and after our first two possessions of the game, their post defense was just as good. Stevens outcoached Jeter, no question. But Stevens outcoaches most coaches. He's a special guy.
I hope Boga comes ready-made next year, because we need him to be. There's no other option. I do think we're looking damn good at every other position.

By the way, J.J. Panoske is a big, big dude. I'd say he's perhaps an inch shorter than Andrew Smith, but with a thicker trunk.

Is he bigger than Kelm, from a build standpoint?

Not trying to be flippant, but who would you have subbed into the game for an extended run -- Patrick Souter or Jerard Ajami? Very valid question and I can honestly say I don't know. Monday morning quarterbacking would have me suggest either, at least to allow Kaylon the time to gain his composure. I don't think that either would have been worse than Williams last night. However, that's my opinion only and it obviously differs from Jeter's. He's the coach and I'm not and I'm only venting because it was very frustrating for me (as I'm sure it was for everyone) to watch the team derail at the worst time.

Student Section, Loved, truly loved that it was overflowing. Loved that you were loud. Loved the signs. Loved the "I believe". Loved the costumes. But shut...the f-ck...up during the national anthem. Singing along is fine, but the hooting and hollering were embarrassing. I remember my first beer too. I realize none that read this board are likely among the guilty parties, but that was sad.

That more than anything pissed me off last night. A large group of the people making noise was right behind me and they continued to make noise even after being told to shut the F#ck up.

As soon as those fools started hollering I had a feeling that karma might come back to bite us.
I still feel gutted after last night. It's a really rough way to end our ncaa hopes for this year after being so emotionally re-invested in this team seemingly time and time again.
The reason Butler was so successful defending our perimeter play was because we missed so many easy buckets early on. Big-Mitch could have taken over this game when he was inserted into the game to ignite a spark, but like the rest of our guys at the time, he came up short.
I'm not sure I can rewatch this game anytime soon to comment further on calls made.
And I guess we'll see if the promo we did for channel 58 gets any airplay (if you weren't in the cell super early yesterday, the band and cheerleaders played their "just 10 minutes" news lead-in)
I think our guys really need to win 1-2 games in the NIT to keep the City's attention to carry over into next season.

I think our guys really need to win 1-2 games in the NIT to keep the City's attention to carry over into next season. I could easily be wrong but I don't think even 2 wins would do much... The casual fan follows the NCAA tournament and thats it. It would take a run to Madison Square Garden to draw enough attention to get people to return next year. That to me would get enough coverage for people to take notice. It will be interesting to see how the team responds in the NIT. Will they be down about missing the NCAA's, come out flat and just bow out right away. OR Will they come in feeling they still have something to prove and play like they did during the late season stretch that got them to this point. I hope its the latter and I hope it equals a couple wins in the NIT.
