Time to bring back the running thread updating the current Horizon tournament pairings.
Like in past, things are really up for grabs for several positions. However, instead of 1 or 2 teams separating themselves from several mid-level teams battling for 3 throuh 8, this year it's tight at the top and spread out a bit in the middle.
Obviously, some teams have played more games than others ... and these will be fluid. But you can't make up losses, therefore positions are based upon the loss column.
FIRST ROUND Tuesday, March 1 (at campus sites)
(10) UIC (2-13) at (3) Milwaukee (10-5), 7 p.m. (7) Green Bay (6-8) at (6) Detroit (8-8), 6 p.m. (8) Loyola (5-10) at (5) Wright State (10-6), 6 p.m. (9) Youngstown State (2-13) at (4) Butler (10-5), 6 p.m.
QUARTERFINALS Friday, March 4 (at the ARC, Valparaiso, Ind.)
UIC-Milwaukee winner vs. Green Bay-Detroit winner, TBA Loyola-Wright State winner vs. Youngstown State-Butler winner, TBA
SEMIFINALS Saturday, March 5 (at the ARC, Valparaiso, Ind.)
UIC-Milw-GB-Detroit vs. (2) Cleveland State (11-4), 5 p.m. (tape-delayed on ESPNU, 9:30 p.m.) Loyola-WSU-YSU-Butler at (1) Valparaiso (11-3), 7:30 p.m. (ESPNU)
CHAMPIONSHIP Tuesday, March 8 (at highest remaining seed)
Semifinal winners, 8 p.m. (ESPN)
*Milwaukee wins tiebreaker over Butler with season sweep (this will be HUGE in Milwaukee's favor for any tiebreaker with other teams as well).

I have been keeping track of the pairings myself and I like how it looks right now. It would be nice if we could get into the top 2 but as it stands I could easily see us getting to the semi's with wins over UIC and Detroit/Green Bay.

I really hope to see us and Detroit in opposite sides of the bracket. They scare me, if they get on a roll watch out. i would much rather play GB or even Butler again.
Also, if we don't climb to #1 to host the finals; please Cleveland State, pick up the slack so we can all head out to Cleveland. I'm so sick of going to Indiana.

Butler and Detroit both scare me for the sheer fact that the odds are stacked against beating a team three times.
And we better pray that Valpo drops a couple, because it would be a travesty for that god-awful arena to host a Horizon League tournament.

Yep ... That sweep over Butler is HUGE for tiebreakers. *That's if Butler finishes ahead of Wright State in the standings, since Valpo has a sweep over Wright State.

That's a sight for sore eyes.
There's your prize, Panthers.

That is a sight for sore eyes. We have a tough end to the season with 2 of 3 on the road and the one home game with Valpo on Wednesday. Valpo has a pretty easy end but as we have seen anyone can beat you in the league this year.
After the way things looked just a month ago a top 4 finish would be a positive and getting the 2 seed would be great. If Hill keeps being the beast he has been and Williams continues to be the floor leader he has been the team can play and beat anyone in the league.

Its to bad I wasn't around for that game 6 years ago...
I was just an 8th grade kid who was a big time college basketball and Panther fan but had never attended a game. I listened to that game and was so happy to know we would be going to the NCAA tourney again!
Now being a Sophmore here at UWM I would NEVER miss the opportunity to be in an atmosphere like that. I have seen some nice crowds (and many not so nice) at the cell but to be there in a championship game atmosphere would just be surreal!
Please Panthers get this done and let me scream from the student section till my lungs explode!

That picture just reminds me what a great arena the Mecca is.

The Mecca is a great arena when filled. When the Mecca is mostly empty it must be tough to feel at home. An arena like Villanova, UNI or UTAH St has, something that holds 6500-7000 would be nifty. Anyways we can fill it again if we finish this season strong. I don't think Valpo hosts the tournament this year, and I think our game with them on Wednesday will have something to do with it.
We are once again the team no one wants to run into late season. As for Detroit I saw them on ESPN 2 yesterday, after seeing what kind of a player minnerath is to go with the rest of that talent, how is this team not winning?

I know. Seeing a great arena like that half-empty is heartbreaking, but I also shudder to think what might happen to it when we leave for the on-campus facility.
As for Detroit, it's depth depth depth. They have none.

Pretty crazy set-up in the standings...Top 5 teams are all within 2 games of each other...
1. Valpo- 11-3 conf
2. Cleve. St.-11-4, .5 games back
T3. Milwaukee- 10-5, 1.5 games back
T3. Butler- 10-5, 1.5 games back.
5. Wright State- 10-6, 2 games back
Even if we beat Valpo, we still have to count on Loyola and UIC to beat them...
Cleve state on the other hand has Wright State and us...I can easily see us getting up to #2...sounds like a much more probable situation...

Wright State is three games back in the loss column, which is what matters.
