Tom Enlund's opening for the game story says it all:
This just makes me sad and frustrated.

I wish I hadn't gone back and read this thread. Some of the things said in here are insanely stupid... Valpo was a total unknown to our team? HUH?!?!?! Well thank goodness you're here to not engage in the discussion! A) When I said that, I meant that Valparaiso was the only Horizon League team we had not played. It's late January. Considering the best way to learn about a team is to play them, yes, I would say we knew very little about their team, especially when put in comparison with the other teams in the league. Especially considering... B) They were playing without Brandon Wood. How much could we possibly know about a team taking the floor without its best player? Of the 8 players to play significant minutes against us yesterday, four had logged impactful playing time the year before. We went up against a team that we were extraordinarily unfamiliar with person-to-person. This isn't a Cleveland State situation where we knew the personnel top-to-bottom and got spanked anyway. C) I have no doubt that our team placed this game in the backs of their minds long before they set foot on the floor. Sweeping Butler would be a true achievement for this squad, an accomplishment to have their hat on in a season almost wholly bereft of them. Valpo took an immediate back seat to that idea. That combination of unfamiliarity and a comparative sag in interest went a long way toward explaining our lazy attitude early in the game. I'm glad you're here to let everyone know how totally basely STUPID their substantiatable positions are. Who needs intelligent discourse when we've got JG Panthers to summarily pass judgment!

C) I have no doubt that our team placed this game in the backs of their minds long before they set foot on the floor. If that was the case (as you have suggested a few times now), who do you place the blame on for allowing that to happen? Only the players? Coaching staff? Both? At 4-5 in conference and 9-11 on the season (with a victory over a conference power) ... it should be completely unacceptable to be overlooking an opponent just because there is an opportunity to gain a season sweep over Butler that no one will remember.

Why does there need to be any other explanation than we're not very good for stinking up the joint last night? Being "unfamiliar" with Valpo, looking ahead to Butler (a .500 team looking past anybody is an absurdity), etc. Why does there have to be an excuse for playing like sh*t, given that it's happened numerous times this year? The sooner people understand this team can be terrible any night against any opponent, the less surprised they'll be when it happens.

I'm glad you're here to let everyone know how totally basely STUPID their substantiatable positions are. Who needs intelligent discourse when we've got JG Panthers to summarily pass judgment! To be fair, I'm not letting everyone know how stupid their comments are as you suggest. It's primarily you who makes annoyingly apologetic statements that make no sense. Clearly you like to hear yourself talk. Oh and sorry that I wasn't here last night to discuss the game with you. I didn't know that was a prerequisite for making comments about the game and it's thread after the fact. The moment you start to supply "intelligent discourse" is the same moment I won't pass judgement on it.

"When I play that many guys in the first half that means that things aren't going the way we would like to see them go. We were looking for something to happen. I was trying to give some guys some opportunities."
Lou, this quote is re-posted from the aftermath of the Forli game five months ago, right?
