I guess I was saying that if we can find ways to make money outside of tickets and concession. Merchandise, camps, coaching clinics. Increased TV/Radio revenues etc. Just finding a way to explore our opportunities. Lucrative corporate sponsorships etc.

All those come easier with more than one revenue sport.

All,
I know Mike. I just talked to him a few days ago on this subject. Your new chancellor is taking this appointment very seriously. He personally understands the need for the on campus arena and supports it. He strongly supports the athletic programs. He understands the need for a winning men's basketball program and a strong administration. He is very in tune to understanding what type of character, leadership and management qualities we need in the AD. He has proven several times over now that he's a great leader himself, an excellent judge of character and really excels in getting people to get things done. Follow anything else he's done since he got here and you will understand that. I have complete faith that Mike will pick a good AD for us.

Jimmy:
The other revenue sport is football, and we don't have that. Soccer? Never going to happen. You can forget any women's sport being a revenue sport. There is no other option other than men's basketball at UWM, and there never will be. So the new AD better deal with it and improve what's been going on here for the past four years.

If you are referring to lacrosse, do you have information on how many programs generate a profit? Also, region/conference data would be great.

No, although lacrosse is a revenue sport at a few places and is growing, I wouldn't call it a revenue sport yet.

There are more revenue sports than basketball and football. I think the sports that make money are Basketball, Football, and Hockey. Also Womens Basketball for the UConn's and the Tennessee's of the world. I think their are some other sports that at certain schools generate a fair amount of revenue like volleyball at Penn State.

There are many sports that generate REVENUE.
There are only 2 that consistently generate PROFIT.
1. Football 2. Men's Basketball
Hockey is the only only other sport that generates profit somewhat consistently, but since hockey is so expensive, I would doubt that this is the case in more than 50% of the schools that carry it.

Increased TV/Radio revenues etc. Just finding a way to explore our opportunities. Lucrative corporate sponsorships etc. There is no reason why a good AD cannot immediately begin cultivating these opportunities and begin bringing new money into the department. And this is true even without a winning men's basketball team. Of course, winning will increase the value of these partnerships exponentially, so please don't think that I am suggesting that it is not important.
