From JS Online news ticker:
Three finalists for UWM athletic director job
Dec. 13, 2010 7:13 p.m. | UW-Milwaukee has narrowed its search for an athletic director to three finalists:
Grace Calhoun is the associate athletic director at Indiana University. She earned a doctorate in higher education administration from Florida.
Rick Costello is the deputy athletic director at Rutgers. He has a master's degree in business administration from Lehigh.
Paul Plinske is the athletic director at UW-Whitewater. He holds a doctorate in kinesiology / sports administration from Minnesota.
Former UWM athletic director George Koonce resigned in June after he was placed on administrative leave in April.

Do we know anything about these candidates? On the one hand, it's nice to have candidates with experience from large public flagship schools, but Plinske has experience as an actual AD. Thoughts?
Whoever gets the job has an uphill battle, that's for sure.

Whitewater sure does have an athletics program to envy.
A doctoral degree in sports administration from Minnesota. Hmmmm.

But Whitewater is a football-based program. But that's the only kink I see.
Overall these are pretty good candidates, though I don't know if I want one of the engineers of Indiana's top-notch athletics program coming here.

I'm just happy they are this far in the process and seemed to have attracted a good pool of candidates. I was afraid without a permanent chancellor in place that this would get pushed to the back-burner.

Costello was the AD for one year at Delaware State, which is D-I FCS, and if memory serves is an HBCU. So we have two people with AD experience as finalists.

Paul Plinske's presentation went well. I'll be posting the audio from the presentation within the next half-hour on PantherU.

If you look at the UWM website, you can find cover letters and resumes of all three candidates. After looking at them, I was most impressed with Rick Costello. But after listening to Paul Plinske, he seems to be a GREAT leader, and an an awesome AD. He said alot of good stuff

Good find shaun. After reading each resume and listening to Mr. Plinske speak today, I would fully endorse him as the next Athletic Director. He's from the area...he wants to be here...he's not using us as a stepping stone...he's educated...and he's from a successful program. Still, I'd really like to hear what Ms. Calhoun and Mr. Costello have to say before I can make an informed decision on the best candidate.

I've had the chance to meet both Paul Plinke and Grace Calhoun. I'll be meeting Rick Costello tomorrow.
So far, I have been VERY impressed with both. It sure seems like we are doing the AD search the right way this time.

Grace Calhoun, it turns out, took a turn as Interim AD while at St. Francis.
So every candidate has sat in the AD chair.
