This was a good win. Yes, some room for improvement and YS was definitely better than in the past. Regardless, you have to like what you see. I think the defense can certainly get better. They did a pretty good job of staying in the game and not letting up on their effort. Ant is no doubt a monster and will help us win many games this year. I was only off 1 point in my prediction also:) The shooting % and points in the paint were huge. we need to cut down on turnovers as another area for improvement.

Shooting:
UWM: 49.1% YSU: 35.3%
Youngstown had been shooting 41% on the year. Also, we won the rebounding battle 45-35 despite losing the offensive rebounding fight 14-13. Unofficially, 14 of YSU's 35 rebounds were offensive. I can believe it.
For the second straight game and fourth in their last five, UWM allowed 29 points or fewer in the second half.

13 turnovers because of some sloppy passing and still can't hit 60% from the stripe. Solid game overall, especially Ant, but they'll need to do better when Cleveland State comes to town.
Not sure how many basketball fans stayed home to watch the Quitness return to Cleveland, and I know that it's Youngstown State on a Thursday, but that crowd was embarrassing.

13 turnovers is right on our average, and pretty much the median for the NCAA. There's certainly room for improvement, but that's not a terrible number.

Some ill-advised passes in crunch time was my main point. You may be right about the quantity.

I would have hoped for more after the close a game against MU.

It's just so gratifying to have watched Anthony emerge into the player he is today, given the palpable growing pains that marked his first two and a half years.
He poured in 30, becoming the first Panther to do so in three years, and left several more at the line and on the rim.
Could we please get his lost freshman season back next year? The kid is an absolute beast.

An absolutely GREAT game by the Ant Hill. 30 points, 14-20 FROM THE FIELD, 12 rebounds, 6 and 6 on O and D, PLUS 2 blocks...whew! Also, TGF Kaylon for going 6-6 if I am correct at the end...need more of that...If I recall, YS' first 4 or 6 points in the second half were from the line. Great job by the defense, keeping YS from making any good shots
Also, great job on defense in the second half. YS shot only 28% in the second half, which, if you have the lead, practically guarantees a win...good performance, but now they need to step up one more notch against Cleve St, but hey, 1-0 in the Horizon!

I was going to state that Youngstown State got a lot of their second half points from the line -- which is true -- but in searching for the numbers I found a pretty incredible stat:
Vytas Sulskis made every single Youngstown State free throw, going 11-15. Most of those were in the second half. Only one other player even recorded attempts -- Maymon -- and he missed them both. And that was at the end of the game. UWM may have only gone 18-32, but they still made more free throws that YSU even attempted. Crazy.
Also: It's worth noting that Sulskis got to the line on a series of very generous fouls midway through the second half. He'd take so-and-so off the dribble -- usually Hill -- and get the whistle just because the refs were bored or something.

Paid crowd not to bad vs. YSU, but to many no-shows. It shouldn't come to a shock as YSU every season has many no-shows since they have are the bottomfeeders of the Horizon League.
I thought it was a fun game to watch. High scoring in the 1st half and the scoring slow down in the 2nd half. Hill, had a huge game! I thought K.Williams had a solid game. Tough D, hit the glass and ran the team.

Kaylon's statistics the last two games are much more in line with what I expected.
He still needs to better understand pace relative to time and score.

I made it my only Panther home contest that fits into my schedule and first things first always good to get a win but is anybody else nervous that Jeter has no confidence in anybody to back up Ant? At just under the 6 minute mark, Ant picked up his 3rd foul and Jeter couldn't even give him a blow to the under 4. I couldn't believe that he can't even put in Mitch for a minute in a half because Ant picking up his 4th before the 5 minute mark could have been a killer. Yes, I know Jeter tried to sub in Hags but Ant missed both free throws but Hags is not a low post defender. Back to Ant, did anybody else feel he was getting hit on the arms when he would make a low post move. It was almost like the refs were scared to blow the whistle b/c he would have fouled out 3 of YSU's bigs. Other observations: ~ Tim Maymon is an interesting character ~ Is Eayrs running for office......he was shaking hands and kissing babies last night

Out of curiousity, does anyone know what Jeter was saying to one of YSU's assistants after the game? Jeter looked a bit upset. In watching him and Slocum "shake" hands, Slocum seemed pretty pissed off and didn't make eye contact with Jeter. Maybe that was the issue. Just wondering if anyone knows.

"Tim Maymon is an interesting character."
Tim Maymon is a certifiable lunatic.
