Just out of curiosity, does anyone have any updates or info on how well (if at all) word has been spread around campus regarding the game tonight? I think it's going to be important to let students know that there is a game tonight within a few yards from where they'll be sitting around watching TV.
If we are able to attract a strong student section tonight, it would hopefully lead to a consistent set of new fans throughout the season. Just wondering if there are flyers posted around campus or people promoting it at all...

It is Spirit Week on campus like we actually have a spirit week

It's being billed as the first annual spirit week, so I think the coaches and athletic department have finally gotten the message we've been trying to communicate to them about attendance and interest around campus. This looks to be a recurring thing ad infinitum.
I'm not sure what exactly "spirit week" entails outside of the banner hanging in the atrium and the fact that coaches and players are handing out bookstore vouchers to students wearing UWM gear. But at least it's a thing they're doing.
One thing this does go to show is that Gilbert is showing himself in a variety of ways to be a hell of an athletic director and a big step up, maybe even from Bud.

I don't believe we'll be seeing an appearance from MSOEfreak tonight.

MSOEfreak tried to make an appearance tonight, but I heard he forgot his password for that account.

Got to watch the game on HLN tonight. My thoughts:
Anthony Hill: Had his way tonight. I expect that from him every game.
Tony Meier: Looked solid, if unspectacular. Made a few wide open shots. Definitely looks bigger out there.
Jerard Ajami: Had a really solid game. Played good defense, and knocked down open shots. Has improved his game
Tone Boyle: Same for Tone. Looked effortless out there and made some nice deep shots.
Kaylon Williams: Obviously a capable floor leader. Had 5 assists, but would probably like to have back the 4 turnovers. Knows when to take it to the rack and when to dish it to the open man.
Evan Richard: Extremely impressed by Evan. Can't believe its possibly he could get redshirted. Scored 12 points in limited minutes, and if redshirted, will be a 1st team All-Conference consideration in his senior year. Obvious scoring potential.
Ryan Haggerty: Very active, which is what earned him minutes last season. Was especially active on defense. Played a good game.
Kyle Kelm: Had his freshman moments, but overall played a good game. Had a few blocks, and I believe had 6 rebounds.
Ja'Rob McCallum & Lonnie Boga: Both played OK games. Lonnie was very active on the boards and Ja'Rob has a sweet mid-range.
Mitch Carter: Not afraid of taking the ball to the hoop. Will be a nice body off the bench.
Ryan Allen: Had an alley-oop that made you say "Wow!" Very active on defense. Probably the best athlete on the team. Definitely could see him playing big minutes off the bench. Really plays the passing lanes well...
Christian Wolf, Mitch Roelke & Patrick Souter: Played limited minutes. Probably won't see many/any minutes this season. Wolf could see time if Ant/Mitch get in foul trouble.
Overall, a nice way to start the season. MSOE didn't play a good game, but it was nice to really dominate and get some different lineups out there. Many of the guys looked ready for the season to begin...

Evan will be a stat stuffer in time and a terrific player in te H League, but a redshirt year is still the right play for him. Ja'Rob should be able to give us the instant offense and three point shooting this year.
I thought we played a loose, crappy game overall, but that's largely to be expected in the first one. We actually played much crisper in the scrimmage -- and that was against better players.
I thought Hags, Lonnie and Kyle all had very strong games. Tone tweaked something on his last play -- a clumsy fall under the hoop after some contact -- and never came back in the game, but it didn't look like it was bothering him after the game. While he was in there he showed again what a weapon we missed last year.
Kaylon was obviously too loose with the ball tonight but he is going to transform how the team operates offensively. And please note -- he's already the best ball fake guy we have had maybe in the last 7 or 8 years. It's such a simple play and so many guys just don't use it. I love his instincts.

Kelm was a terrific defensive presence, and finished with three or four blocks. Combined with the fact that he got to the line for almost all of his points, he's a surprisingly physical player for someone getting used to an entirely new physical build. He seems to have acclimated himself to a new body amazingly fast.
Carter is extremely limited by his hand injury at this point, and when he was his most effective he just decided to screw precautions and play physically, with both arms. Unfortunately this led to a moment after an incredibly physical possession in which he fought through a thriple-team in which he shook his injured hand in discomfort. It would probably benefit the team more to sit him at this point and wait until he's healthier, because the last thing we need is one of our most talented players sitting out for the year.
