Chip Rank, 6-6, F, Jr., Cedarburg – Creighton, Northeastern, Northwestern, Portland and Wisconsin have been in recent contact. William & Mary also recently offered a scholarship. Both UW-Green Bay and UW-Milwaukee had previously offered scholarships along with several other schools.

Josh Gasser, 6-4, PG, Jr., Port Washington – Creighton, Northeastern, Northwestern and Portland have expressed recent interest while William & Mary offered a scholarship. Like Rank, Gasser is a prime recruiting target for both Green Bay and Milwaukee, who previously offered scholarships.

Evaluation:

December, 2007: Marquis Mason is an elite level athlete with a developing game. He is transitioning to the perimeter after playing inside until this season. He can run, he can finish at the rim and the rebounds very well. Few are as explosive as Mason. Mason is extremely aggressive on offense and has a can make an occasional three. He needs to work on his entire skill package, from ball handling to shooting, to playing without the ball and coming off screens. As a young prospect, he has the tools necessary to become an excellent player, but his development will determine what level he will ultimately play at.

Not that this is any surprise, Kelm is listing Iowa State as his leader right now per Rivals.

"I really like Iowa State right now. I don't have a list but if I had to pick right now, it would be Iowa State,' Kelm said...
After Iowa State, Kelm is still high on Wisconsin-Green Bay, Oregon State and Marquette. He also holds offers from Northern Iowa and Wisconsin-Milwaukee".

ESPN needs to hop on the bandwagon and knock Rivals and Scout down for the count. ESPN has the cash to do it, and Rivals and Scout just don't quite get it. If ESPN puts in the effort, they'll have something better than both Rivals and Scout put together.

I'm just saying they're an entity with the resources to do what Scout and Rivals do but more widespread.

You don't know that ESPN has the money to pay the amount of money and people to scour the entire U.S. to analyze every recruit in high school athletics. That's a presumptious argument that holds no water.
Lets just say for talking purposes ESPN did have the resources to pay these "scouts", what kind of quality would we be getting out of these analysts. There isn't a training tutorial one can attend to become a better scout. It takes many years of expereince either playing a sport, or being around that said sport to develop the ability to make sound judgements on an athletes abilities.

Um, ESPN just bought the rights to the BCS. They have enough cash to take over day Sunday airings from FOX or CBS. Honestly, what within the sports world can't ESPN get their hands on? The Olympics?

ESPN could pay far more for scouts than Rivals or Scout, so obviously they'd get their "scouts" from those two agencies; as if ESPN doesn't already do that with on-air talent and such.

In any case, you're argument is that ESPN doesn't have the money to obtain the resources to match up with Rivals.com and Scout.com. Really?

My argument is that ESPN has the cash to do what Rivals and Scout do better than Rivals and Scout. How is there even another stance?

Obviously ESPN isn't going to plunk down hundreds of millions of dollars into it. But they could outspend Rivals and Scout, kill those websites, and make money off of further subscriptions.

Recruiting is absolutely huge nowadays. Tons of people follow it; Rivals and Scout make money off of it. I'm merely saying that ESPN could spend more, take the subscription services from both companies with a better product, and do a better job. It's not hard to see that.

No black Panther my argument isn't that Rivals or Scout can match ESPN in terms of spending power because they can't. What I'm arguing is that it isn't as simple as you're making it out to be. It's more than just money that makes a good recruiting service and if you went back and read my post you'd see that. Just because ESPN has money doesn't mean they'd be good at the job.
