NDSU gets verbal from Wis. standout Kading
For Wisconsin basketball standout Chris Kading, coming to North Dakota State will be like a homecoming.

For Wisconsin basketball standout Chris Kading, coming to North Dakota State will be like a homecoming.
Kading, whose parents Doug and Jane competed on the now-defunct NDSU swim teams, verbally committed to play basketball for the Bison for the 2011-12 season.
“I have some relatives on my mom’s side who live in Fargo so I’m excited for them to be able to see me play,” said Kading, a 6-foot-8 power forward who will be a senior at DePere (Wis.) High School next fall.
Despite missing 11 games with a broken finger as a junior, Kading averaged 11 points, eight rebounds and five blocked shots for a 24-2 DePere team that reached the section finals this past season. Kading was ranked No. 7 among Wisconsin prospects in the class of 2011 by Wishoops.net.
“His best basketball is going to be when he is 21 or 22 years old,” said DePere coach Brian Winchester of Kading, who has grown five inches since his freshman year. “His upside is phenomenal. He’s a great defender and a great shot blocker. And he can jump. His vertical went from 27 to 30 inches this last season.”
Winschester said Marquette, Yale, Northern Iowa, Wisconsin-Green Bay and Wisconsin-Milwaukee showed interest in Kading. He said NDSU was the only school to offer him a scholarship.
Because of NCAA rules, NDSU head coach Saul Phillips can not comment on Kading until he officially signs a letter of intent next fall.
“I’m really excited about going to NDSU,” Kading said. “I just liked everything about it. Plus it gives me a great opportunity to play Division I basketball.”
