watching him in the scrimmage games on friday and saturday he resembled more of a point guard than a shooting guard. If you look at his game by game numbers last year he was consistently putting up 8,9,10 assists every game. Not to mention he had 80+ steals on the season.

Wow Jimmy, you can really be a dick sometimes. Congrats to Marquis for receiving DI scholarship in 2 sports. Best of luck in football

I have a feeling that Jimmy's right. He may never see the court outside of garbage time. If Basketball was his first choice, this seems foolish.
Madison is just jerking his chain.

You think they are using a scholarship just to jerk his chain? I know Bielema may be struggling but I doubt he offers kids just for kicks. Personally I see him as a big reciever or growing into the Travis Beckum/Owen Daniels H-back in the Badgers program. I hope for the best for Marquis. Good luck at UW.

I dont know why this is a surprise. We all knew his verbal was soft at best since he wanted try and play football somewhere. He got his chance and I dont know how anyone can blame him. This does not bother me at all. Best of luck to him.

From what I know Marquis prefers basketball, but the common wisdom is that his ceiling is higher in football. He can't make a bad decision here. If he takes the UW football ride nobody should blame him for that. That said, I agree he is very unlikely to see playing time on the Wisconsin basketball squad assuming he even makes the team. Basically he'll be a very athletic walk-on in that program if his first obligation is football -- and believe me, it will be.

I meant never playing basketball. I've never seen him play football, so I wouldn't assume anything about his playing time in that sport.

I have been told be very knowledgeable people that Marquis has NFL potential as a receiver.

From what I heard originally, football was his top choice but he chose bball b/c it didn't appear he'd get a scholarship from Bielema. He didn't seem real interested in playing football for anyone but UW. After this past season, things changed and with his improving grades, the chances seemed greater and greater. I agree he'll practically never see the bball court in Madison but like Fran said his ceiling is much higher for football.
This is a lot like when we recruited Rick Wagner from Nathan Hale, he had a very good chance to land him if Bielema didn't come calling. The Badgers aren't doing this to just toy with him since Bielema would legitimately want him to play football.

I've never seen Marquis play football. But, having seen him play basketball a couple of times, I think he may be able to find a few minutes with the Badgers ala Kevin Gullickson, assuming Mason is able to devote enough time to that sport.
