Well, since we're now 1-3, I still stand by my 10. .500 might be reachable now. You never know what to expect with freshman.
Either way, we're not going to win conference. We're not going to the NIT. And the NCAA's are out of the question. As I've said all along, its about getting the freshman learning experiences. They learn a lot last night, and next year this experience, coupled with a great incoming class, will result in another trip to the NCAA's.
If we had our redshirts and next season's freshman we would have given Michigan a whoopin'.
Adios, Freak
Here's a prediction: Swiggett-Franklin-Roberts will be the greatest guard combo ever in the HL. Charlie keeps giving us a glimpse of what will come.

Right now we are suffering at the post position, but it is going to get a lot better. I know that Mauldin is extremely rusty after having not played in nearly 2 years. I believe that the knee is a non-issue. What is going to make the biggest difference is more time on the floor in games. As rusty as he is (less than spectacular scoring), his presence inside already makes a tremendous difference, there is no denying that. When he is back in form and on the floor at the same time with Paulsen that could be a great combo. Give them playing time together, let it gel, then sit back and reap the benefits. Just give it some time. The season is just starting. I believe that this team can still surprise a lot of people. Right now they are under-achieving, which is tough to watch; but this could work in their favor down the road. Let the rest of the HL think that they have nothing to fear from the Panthers. Just keep your eyes on the prize come playoff time.

I agree Sam will get better every game and he will play more and more, I know right now he is still confident he can make a difference and get back to where he used to be before the knee surgeries. He has shown flashes I think one of these games he will break the seal and impress a lot of people

He has shown flashes I think one of these games he will break the seal and impress a lot of people I'll take it a step further. From what I've been able to see (and hear), this team is noticeably better when Sam is on the court. The problem is his lack of durability due to the knee, not being in "game" shape and confidence - all of which will gradually improve. If he continues to progress, we'll start seeing him for 20+ mins per game, which will allow other players to play in their more natural positions (Skinner especially, he got abused in the paint last night).

I think we can contend for post season play in the HL tourney. If they continue to improve at the same rate they have been there's no reason to believe otherwise.

And if one of those does happen, your gonna be saying in March, "I knew we would be going to the NIT."

uwmfan04, no I wont. Thus far I've been fairly consistent with my expectations. They're pretty low compared the vast majority on this board. We have young, freshman players. You never know what to expect. My expectations have actually gone in reverse. I started the season saying .500 or better, but since UW-Parkside I've been back tracking. I am still content, the freshman are playing outstanding considering the lack of a veteran leader (ex: What Novak and Evanashko did for their young teams).
I'll state it again. No NIT in 06-07. No NCAA in 06-07. .500 in 06-07 if we really gel (thus no NIT or NCAA). NCAA in 07-08.

I agree with Freak. Even if this is young team does vastly improve this season, UWGB, Detroit, Loyola, and Butler are all going to be very good this season, and you can never count out UIC and WSU.
I'd settle for the team looking solid at the end of the season.

At this point, Ghost's predictions are pretty realistic. I think a few people are getting a little too ahead of themselves. This team has a lot to learn and although they played Michigan close there is vast improvement needed. There are going to be some tough, tough Horizon teams this year.
I think this year is a good year for all UWM fans to appreciate the league as a whole. We've been pretty successful recently and I think it's time to throw our support to league teams. Although they are rivals when we play, we should root them on whenever they are playing someone else. A lot of schools in the league don't like our fans and I'd like to see that change. But that could be wishful thinking.

Not sure I agree with the assessment that Detroit is going to be very good this season. The jury is still on its lunch break on that one. As for Sam, there is no denying that his presence continues to have a very positive impact on the team. As for the team's performance against Michigan, it was mentioned a few times both during and after the broadcast that the Panthers fed off the energy of the crowd and also benefitted from being away from home, far from the distractions of having family and friends around. A few days of practice and focus appears to have done wonders for this young team.
