the athletic dept. scrapped it b/c it sucked so bad last year and since Ford rolled his ankle. i'm more disappointed in not having a 3-pt. contest considering how many shooters we have this year.

So there's no dunk contest and no 3 pt. contest?  What ARE they going to have then? I remember this thing lasting several hours back when it was at the Klotsche and had both those events... how long can they possibly make it without either? |

Maybe they'll have a lay up contest, or a passing contest, or a jump ball contest.

They explained it at the meeting. There will scrimages for the mena and for the women. Some layup stuff, contests for the fans etc.

There will be tons of prizes for the fans Jimmy. And as you know we ALL have to encourage everyone to attend to help with recruiting, so I'm sure as a good Panther fan you'll suck it up and do without a dunk contest.

Oh, of course I'll be there, and I've been telling everyone I see to go, but students will be less wanting to go if there is no dunk contest.

I do not think the random Panther basketball fan would care if there is a dunk contest. Hell, I'm a huge basketball fan and after last year's dunk contest debacle, I'd rather have more chances to win some cash, a tv, or free pizza shuttle.

first of all derrek ford NEVER should have been allowed to be in the dunk contest. the guy is garbage. second of all, it is a complete joke that they are not having it this year. a dunk contest is a centerpiece of midnight madness, it is at every college across the country. guys like rick franklin, charlie swiggett, paige paulsen (he can jump), roman gentry, marcus skinner, etc..they have to have a dunk contest. by not having one they are taking a major step back in this event and when theres only about 800 people in attendance, they'll realized they really messed up.

If anything, we'll see the drop off next year, because most won't know there's no dunk contest this year.
Then they won't want to return in the future.
Plus, the top secret recruits will compare our lame no-dunk-contest-madness with other schools and want to go where it's more exciting.

Cool your jets guys. There will be ample time during the festivities for dunking for both men and women. Will there be a dunking contest? No. Will there be plenty of dunks for those who want to do them? Yes!
