If a kid decides not to come here because of a damn dunk contest, so be it. IMHO, it is more important that the stands be full of people showing that yes, we love our basketball teams, and we support them.
GO PANTHERS!

Cool your jets guys. There will be ample time during the festivities for dunking for both men and women. Will there be a dunking contest? No. Will there be plenty of dunks for those who want to do them? Yes! But how will we know who's dunk is the most exciting with out a contest?

And there will be many more dunks in a contest than a pick-up game.
Like I said, even if 10 people decide not to go because there is no dunk contest, that's a travesty. We have to make it exciting for the players coming, we HAVE to.
The players were planning dunks. Zach Holt told me himself that he planned on a 360, and would follow that up by dunking over a post player. Not too sure whether he was joking or not. Tennessee Titan got ups. ;D
BTW Sport, I want to know who on the women's team can dunk. That would be awesome.

if a recruit goes elsewhere b/c there was no dunk contest, that means he's looking for any excuse possible to not sign w/ us and if that's the case, i don't want him here. he'll get to see 20 mins. worth of scrimmages which he'll most likely see some dunks during that time.
besides, how are recruits going to compare our no dunk contest to other schools when they're here that whole weekend?

Again, an attendence drop off may be the result of no dunk contest. Which would result in low attendence and a recruit dismissing us. besides, how are recruits going to compare our no dunk contest to other schools when they're here that whole weekend? Past and future years.

I would think the recruits would care more about Sweet 16 Banners, Conference Championship Banners, and NCAA Tourney Appreance Banners than a dunk contest. And from what I recall, UWM has had one hung each of the last 5 Midnight Madnesses.

Then I guess, no one has to go to "Panther Madness" because the Banners are there.

They UNVEIL the new banners at the Cell on Panther Madness Night. It's nice to have the unveiling to show the new recruits what they should be striving for.
People really are bent out of shape because of this no dunk contest. Aside from Boo and maybe Ed, the thing has sucked for the past 3 years.

If a kid is at a Midnight Madness in '05 and at a different one in '06, he could compare them. But what I'm really saying is that a dunk contest might bring in more fans, and get them more excited, hence leaving the recruit more interested.

in theory that might be true however from the guys that were here last year, none are back visiting for a second consecutive year. the out-of-state prospects were all '06 recruits and the '07 prospects are no longer being considered for whatever reason.
the athletic dept. also took a survey after last year's MM and the majority was disappointed that there wasn't a scrimmage. they figured since the dunk contest last year was terrible, someone had gotten injured and the majority of fans surveyed preferred a scrimmage, they went this route.
