Looks like it starts in '07-'08 as UWM believes their schedule this year is already difficult enough with UAB, Wisconsin, etc (though I'm sure some UWM fans will still complain that we are ducking UWM even though we offered to play this year). Oh well.
This also kills the argument that we wanted you this year with all of your turnover for an "easier win". An argument I never understood since we have offered to play you 5 times, not 1 time and you certainly can rebuild in a few years. Hell, we may lose Dominic James to the pros after this year so it may be more disadvantageous for us.
At any rate, 4 for 1 is coming your way. Look forward to playing you guys and helping your financial bottom line. ;D
From the Urinal-Sentinel
As for the rest of MU's schedule, Crean said negotiations with UW-Milwaukee were ongoing.
"The deal with UWM continues to move forward," Crean said. "We've got some things to finish up there. I don't think they feel it's in their best interests to play the game this year with their schedule the way it is, so the contract will probably be done for the following year and we respect that if it's best for them."
Aside from the series starting in 2007-'08, the remainder of the deal remains the same.
"Nothing's changed on the whole 4-for-1," Crean said. "We're just trying to put the finishing touches on it. We're very close, no question about it."

I, for one, am hopeful that this now will move beyond the great Internet debate. I agree with the assertion that Dominic may move to the pros after this season and so it would have been greatly advantageous for Marquette to play us this year. I think talks were mostly conciliatory. Frankly, each side should now concentrate on its own schedule and profile.

So, now that the ball is in the Panthers' court and they will most likely turn down the opportunity to play Marquette in the 06-07 season do we MU fans have the right to say that UWM is "ducking" Marquette and is "afraid" to play the game? Shouldn't UWM take the best interests of the state in mind and play the game as offered?
Oh, wait, that's what Badgers fans have been telling me for years.
Perhaps this should all be put to rest. UWM clamored for it. Marquette stepped up. UWM will delay it. The series will start in December 2007. It's done with for now but there is one muckraker amongst the fanbases who certainly won't let it rest.

This is like watching kindergarteners play "telephone." Fran we all know you want to play, but you need a better connection. Look forward to this great series Fran...too bad it has to wait one more year.

Of course because Crean says it, we know it MUST be true Uhm, well considering he is one of the parties negotiating the contract and he's firm that it will be nothing less than a 4 for 1.....yeah, I'm pretty sure it's true.

He's also the guy who announced a 4 for 1 with us and GB. One home game and three road games and he said it was the same deal that UW had with us and GB. Of course we know that it wasn't the same deal and the series was far from the done deal he said it was.
Bottom line here is that his track record on this isn't so hot, so let's wait and see what UWM says before jumping to conclusions here.

Re-read the article again. He said the precedent was set for a 4 for 1 situation and that we would like the same situation. Whether it was buy games or return games, etc was never mentioned in the article. www.jsonline.com/story/index.aspx?id=436543Milwsport, I think you are going to be disappointed...it will be a 4 for 1 or nothing at all.

I think fred may be right here - it may be a situation where it is a 4-1 or nothing at all. the issue is with what the payout will be from MU to Milwaukee for this deal to happen.
MU wants a 4-1 with a cash payment for 1 game. In essence, this becomes a straight 3-1 with an extra "buy" game
Milwaukee will only consider a 4-1 with cash payment for 2 games. In essence, a straight 2-1 with two extra "buy" games.
I can understand MU's perspective, if they think they can get this type of financial offer elsewhere, it doesn't seem likely that they will budge from their position. At the same time, I can guarantee that there is no way that we will accept a deal like the one MU is proposing, as it would make HORRIBLE sense for us financially.
The advantage in this case, is that as the time goes by, the cost of getting a buy game always goes up. Last minute buy games can cost a school upwards of $80-$100k. We can afford to wait and will be able to fill the open date on our schedule in September. I am not so sure that MU wants to wait that long. Obviously, they have to fill their home dates - it's been pretty well documented that they get a huge portion of their revenue from men's basketball.
Anyway, I hope we get a deal done, but, it is not "all but signed" at this time. In fact, there's still some considerable distance between the parties.

Hold it, Lou, are you saying that the PR stuff coming out of the Wells Street bunker may be -- how can I put this -- well, let's just say it's meant to steer the public perception of what is actually going on to mollify the golden galumphing fanatics who still think they're the only big time program in Milwaukee?

Channel 4 news in Milwaukee apparently reported first game in December of 2007. WTMJ also reported about how UWM/MU were playing this year after Rosiak's report the first time around. we all know how accurate that was. call me crazy but doesn't seem odd how all these updates are only through Crean and Rosiak or anyone else at the J/S doesn't bother to ask Jeter? maybe its me, but it'd make sense to talk to both coaches, not just one.

Wel goll--leee! Classic Fran....classic. You're a liberal lunatic but that's ok, it can be treated. Why don't you share with us all what is "actually going on" since you're so well connected. So far just about everything we've stated has happened in actuality and will continue to be that way, deny it all you want. Please, share with us Fran. Put on your moonbat liberal tinfoil hat while you're at it.
