Those 3 NCAAs were all in the last 4 years, and much of that time UWM wasn't even D-1. I never tried to compare history, outside of recent history. Recent history puts the two schools basically on a par with each other. Why would 20+ years ago make a difference? Butch Lee and Doc Rivers aren't playing these games.

I don't really care that it's a 4 for 1 deal. It's just hilarious that Crean/Cords all of a sudden have a change of heart a year outside of a new UWM coach and immediately after the entire team graduates, a team that was FAR more successful than what he's had at Marquette the past three years. And this Gold idiot is saying they're winning some "PR battle?" Son, your school has been ducking UWM for years, and they saw a transition year for UWM as a good time to schedule the games. Be that as it may, thank God the schools are finally playing so we don't have to b*tch at each other about it anymore.

to quote Al McGuire, "don't call me son unless I'm in your will" And we haven't been ducking UWm, listen to Tom Crean's interview with Bill Michaels on WTMJ, it was a business/logistics situation. If anything it makes sense to play you guys now b/c that jackass Pearl isn't around and spreading his snake oil salesman lies to the local media. Rob Jeter's a real class guy, and it makes sense that we start playing again since he has decided to be classy about it, unlike Pearl. Also, it is well known within Marquette circles that it was the animosity between Pearl and Cords that prevented the game, which makes sense. And yes, you were so much more successful than us 3 years ago (2003) when this kid named Wade led us to the Final Four and you lost to ND in the first round....

Business? Logistics?
Oh pleeeeeaazze. Who are you kidding? It what way were the logistics better when MU plays Florida A & M, Sacred Heart, and Arkansas Pine Bluff? In what way was business better when those and other cream puffs on the MU schedule dragged your attendance down.
That being said before everyone starts jumping up and down let's see what the deal is. Maybe each school gets to keep the revenue from tickets it sells for the games. Maybe there are other considerations. Hey give UWM 5,000 tickets and let us keep the revenue from them. You really don't know til someone makes an announcement.
What can be said is that the offer is there and hasn't been rejected there is a reason for that. Trust Bud and RJ. They know what they're doing.
It's just across the street from the Cell anyway. It's not like we have to go to the South side for the game. It's a game the fans really want to see. And yes, this year our chances may not look that good but next year and the year after that? We'll see.

Once again, I contend we no longer have anything to gain playing MU. There are better teams that wouldn't require silly concessions like MU and UW-Dane County demand. If Crean wants to hang his hat on saying "the precedent was set with UWM's agreement to play UW-DC in a 4 for 1," that's his choice. But why wasn't that his statement last year? Or the year before? Just a reminder: In the last two years, UWM is the only WI team to advance at least to the second round. When we lost in each of those years, it was either to the national runner up or champion. Again, we don't need to play MU to measure our success. It seems many UWM supporters think a UWM/MU game will become the nirvana of rivalries because it comes down to rich snobby folks vs. the blue collar work ethic of a public institution. Personally, I turn my nose up at you, MU. Have a nice life. Couldn't care less what you do, who you play, or if you win or lose. Duane who? As for business decisions go, I guess your folks Crean/Cord must not be all that bright. Gee, if Bruce was making all that noise and you had the chance for some free press because BP did all the work for you, wouldn't it have made sense to take advantage of this opportunity? Isn't that what smart businessmen (or girls, as the case may be...) do? Maybe they were too busy deciding whether to be called the Jumping Jesuits or Dental Hygenists. You set such a good example when it comes to smart business and marketing moves...

...looks like I spoke too soon in the other thread. I don't believe you guys whored yourselves out like this....4 to 1? C'mon. What is there to gain? At least when they wouldn't play you, you could play the "MU's scared" card...now you play them 4 times at their place where you will likely lose all four? There goes all the momentum you've built up in that town for the past few years...
Seriously, how are mid-majors going to get any respect when you guys are scheduling like this? Please don't talk about UWGB's coach when you guys have two 4 to 1 deals going at once...
By the way, do you think it's just coincidence that MU wants to play you after you lose 7 seniors...they know exactly what they're doing....

So, since part of the reason Crean said we're looking into scheduling this game now is b/c buy games are getting too expensive, we should give money to UWm for 5000 tickets (which btw is your avg. attendance at the Arena).... that makes a lot of sense....

MUGold - how many of these 35 victories have occurred since UWM has been a DIVISION I PROGRAM? Better yet, how many have come since Bo Ryan, Bruce Pearl, or Rob Jeter have been the coach?
So what's the reason you're playing us now, "logistics" or Crean didn't want to lose to Bruce Pearl? Or the real reason, which is this the first time since 2003 you'll have a chance to beat us?
