Altough money is the great motivator Jeter does have some firm roots planted in Wisconsin. I'm also suprised that he's a canidate while he has done a great job it has been w/a group of seasoned veterans I would think that a larger school would be going after someone w/a longer tenure as a head coach. That's why I think it may end up being nothimg more than casual interest at this point. Any school (Iowa State) may wait a few years before they pose a serious threat. Like I said, in Bud we trust.

You gotta figure Jeter is going to get some sort of a raise for his success so far.

You gotta figure Jeter is going to get some sort of a raise for his success so far. For sure and having "teams" interested in him so far is going to work to his advantage because the pay raise will be phat! P.S. Maryland sucks and I hope they lose against Manhattan.

I thought Rob's contract was for less than $300,000. Not sure why I recall that figure.

Iowa State is going to have enough penalities against them that it will be an undesireable place for Rob to go. Why the hell would you go after a first year coach who hasn't even proved he can recruit his own players? Jesus I would expect that type of hiring from some mid-major program, but not from a Big 12 school. Stop worrying we have a game today... I did 20 some hours of driving to get to Florida last night so I'm going to go enjoy the sun and get ready for that game!

You guys are getting unneccessarily worked up. There's very little chance Robbie is leaving. But when it comes to it, the only guarantee against coaches moving on is to have mediocre seasons. Nobody is courting Jim Whitesell or Todd K right now.
Relax.

I have faith in Bud that he will come through and bump up Robbie's salary. According to the Journal he is making 300,000 and Ryan is making 700,000. I wouldnt be suprised at all and I expect Bud to bump it up in the range of what Ryan is making. IN BUD WE TRUST.

I will confirm that Jeter is being paid pretty much what Pearl was when he left. I remember a discussion at one of the meetings how an unproven coach shouldn't get so much.

I would say that the UWM alumni with some spare funds need to step up to the plate and make the contributions necessary for the program, and for Robbie. If we want to go to the next level as a program, the time is now. We have th opportunity to shut down a lot of the courting by making a big commitment to Robbie right now. Not to endorse the move, but that other school on Wisconsin Ave. made a big money commitment to their coach and in doing so have made it very difficult for anyone to come-a-calling. The biggest thing to get in writing is the buyout clause. The bigger that number gets, the harder it will be for other programs to look our way. I must say, I have been increasingly impressed with Rob. He took over a situation where he had tremendous potential for "failure" after last season. He implemented his style, and stuck to his guns, and still had success. That takes big brass ones, in my book. And having met him several times now, he seems to be much more, umm...how do I say this nicely....genuine than his predecessor. He strikes me as a guy you would love to have in your home, and can trust your kids with, which may explain his recruiting success over the years. I am certain the allure of a "big name" is hard to say "no" to, and they day may come when he just can't, but I hope he is they type of man that would rather have his name associated with a program that rose from the mid major ranks with him at the helm, instead of just another mid major coach who made the leap. I have no real reason to think he is that man, but I can hope and pray he is. (And I would like my son to get to learn from him this summer at his camp, at least. )

On ESPN radio yesterday they were talking about Jeter hasn't gotten respect from UWM fans. Bill Johnson said the comments when he was hired were "the least of it," he went on to mention criticisms from fans over the playing style and suggestions that he didn't have to coach with an experienced team and that he didn't care. (sounds like maybe someone's been reading this board) That won't help us to keep him. On the plus side he only has one year of head coaching experience and the bigger programs may decide to wait to see what happens next year.

If that's true Bill Johnson can get bent. I wasn't aware that people weren't allowed to voice opinions. A lot of people weren't sure how Jeter would perform when he first came to UWM. It's pretty clear that he's won fans over.
I don't know how Bill Johnson can even talk the way he bags on some people on his broadcasts. Get bent hypocrite.

I don't think Robbie honestly thinks he is not loved at UWM. He had masses of people coming up to congratulate him at the Selection Party. It looked like he was a rock star for Pete's sake.
Furthermore, if he has time to read this board, I would be stunned.
As for the posts early in the year, there's nothing like the anonymity of the internet to bring out the butt head in some people. And all the negativity was pretty much shouted down, as I recall.
