I am not going to comment on the quality (or lack thereof) of the officiating (as soon as I heard Sid and the Simpsons were doing the game, I knew we were in for a ............"interesting" night), but I did want to make one point............although Rob got "T'd" up, he is somewhat fortunate that he didn't get more than one. He was on all three of the ref's hard, ALL night! While he was chewing on Sid's ear, Lamar gave him a "T" which really set him off (lucky he didn't get another one right away). One thing that really surprised me is that Bids didn't really go after RJ and tell him to settle down. RJ was obviously emotional at that point and needed to be restrained, but none of his assistants stepped in and get him back near the bench (he was WAY out on the court). Granted, this is a moot point because he didn't get the second "T", but IMHO the assistants should have stepped in, given the situation. Thoughts? I tend to disagree here. It takes a lot, I mean A LOT to get T'ed up twice and thrown out of a game. My guess is while Coach was very excitable during the exchange following the technical he was ok because unless you're throwing F-bombs around or you literally call the ref a name like c***sucker(see Bull Durham) or something...you're ok. And the Asst. coaches didn't need to grab him or restrain him because he never got a 2nd technical, so you're right your point is moot. I did notice though at one point toward the end of the conversation, Duffy kind of said something to Coach Jeter and he stopped stressing the point so much and it was over and done with.

As a point of clarification, F-bombs were thrown.

Jeter was trying to tell the ref that Chris Hill was down - injury timeout. I guess it escalated from there.

I'm suprised to see no comment about the awful shot selection by Avery Smith late in the second half. I may repeat everyone, but heres my observations:
- our last 3 games (I'll include the Butler loss) we played amazing in the paint. UIC defense or no AT, we did nothing in the paint until joah tried to take over in OT. - freethrows. unbelievably cold. no excuse. - absolutely no defense in OT - Chris Hill played sloppy as hell. I understand he's a senior and the leader, but Al was making shots, not turning the ball over, and didn't have 4 fouls. - officiating. yep. - alot of complaining about Wimmer. who would you rather have in the game when we need 2-3 pts and we definately need a jumpshot considering we'll never get the ball into the paint? wimmer or ford/mccoy? wimmer played pretty remarkable against YSU regardless of it being YSU and the scoreboard. he's got a good looking shot and handles the ball well. I think he deserved the playing time when we need a shooter.

OK, my self imposed one week hiatus from this board lasted less than one day...
Did anyone else notice our good ole buddy Martell Bailey and his three thug buddies yucking it up before the game? About 30 minutes before tip two of the thugs (to his credit it wasn't Martell) were "dancing" to a rap song pretending to shoot their Ak-47s at the UWM student section. Unbelievably pathetic, funny, sad, or scary depending on your point of view.
GO Panthers...and practice free throws!

It seems every time this team loses it is somehow the refs fault. With Horizon League refs, you know you aren't getting top-tier officials, sooner or later learn to deal with it. The reffing was terrible against both teams. They bailed out Hanson with that foul call at the end of regulation.
If you are going to rely on mediocre officials at best to make calls, don't be upset when they don't make those said calls. And shoot better than 58 % when they do make the calls.

Plus he was wearing Ced Banks's jacket. I don't know if anyone else thought this, but this game was eerily similar to the last time we lost at home vs Detroit. Ed had 38 and was pretty much the only scorer we had that night (Boo had 31), Joah had 0 (Tigert non-factor due to injury), and Detroit made every shot (much like UIC last night). That was the end of our streak then and this is the end now. Just something to talk about I guess. Enough about Tyrone, if he was any good he would play. So much for long, athletic recruits that Jeter likes who cannot score.

It is partly the fault of the refs. This was basically the same crew reprimanded by the HL after we lost at WSU. The same crew that called only three fouls at the Butler game until the second half was almost over. I've been told they were at three of our four league losses and none of our wins Is that a coincidence?
How do players get knocked over and there's no call? How does a guy three or four feet above the floor get called for traveling after he passed off. How does a guy take three giant steps heading for the perimeter with the ball in his hands and not get called for traveling?
You could hear it from the crowd. At some points people stood and cheered when they finally called a foul on someone for something he'd been doing the whole game. I've never heard our crowds get on the refs like they did last night.
Yes we took way too many outside shots but at the same time, we were getting hammered hard in the paint and these guys were allowing that to happen.
When refs make those calls, we are able to go inside and win (even with bad FT shooting) because opposing players worry about fouling out and it opens up the lanes. When they don't make those calls we are forced to perimeter and we're in trouble.
That being said, it doesn't mean that we shouldn't have won anyway. Shooting 58% from the line in front of your own baskets is awful. So too is taking long shot after long shot with plenty of time on the clock and no one in position to rebound.
We should have won despite the reffing, but then again we shouldn't have had to overcome that reffing too.

As a point of clarification, F-bombs were thrown. Were they directed at a ref as in you dumb mother f***er or you stupid f***ing zebra? Or were they just cursory f-bombs dropped into his statements? Like, my guy was f***ing injured or my guy got f***ing nailed and I just wanted a TO.

I'm pretty sure it was "my guy was f-ing injured"
