BBall30 just explained why he felt Rob inserted Ty into the game when he did. As for Wimmer, when's the last time you remember seeing him on the court? As for the system, it's designed to create spacing and put players in a position where they have a matchup advantage on their counterpart. (Chris actually scored on a nice post move over Graves.) As for the Badgers, perhaps you didn't hear that they lost three of their key reserves over the last two weeks, leaving them with just seven scholarship players and walk-on Kevin Gullickson? The system seems to have worked pretty well for them over the last four years — two Big 10 regular-season titles, one tournament title, a Sweet 16 appearance and one trip to the Elite Eight. I rest my case.

Panthertrax how do you get the feeling that the offense isn't working?
The offense looked to be working perfectly against Butler. We had 50 points in the paint... let me say that again 50! We also had numerous looks from the outside, but we just weren't able to get them to go down. There is a huge difference between a person missing an open shot and an offensive system not working. If you watch any tapes from UWM last season under Pearl and then compare our half-court offense from then to now you would notice striking similarites. Officials didn't help us any against Butler and if you couple that with horrible 3 point shooting you can figure out why we lost. The system ain't broken people just need to hit open shots.

I honestly think that was one of the best games of the year in the horizon...it was a tough, physical game, but honestly I think the only problem I have is if u arent going to call fouls, dont do it, but to call that one on tigert down the stretch was horrible...but I dont think it makes a hill of beans....we lost to a very inspired team yesterday...Cant hold your head too much cause there are still 4 league games to be played

Lets not forget that Hinkle Fieldhouse might be one of the top 10 hardest places to play at in the Midwest

We were hosed
1) Because we had to play the first four game road swing in HL history and it just happens to include the three teams expected to contend this year. AND it just happens to end at Butler on a day when they are sky high celebrating their 150th anniversary.
What an amazing coincidence. Or was it?
2) Jeter is right about the refs. Moreover the Butler announcers were excellent. There six times (yes I keep count on these things) where they called a foul or other infraction the refs didn't. Five of those shoudl have gone against Butler.
A charge on Tigert that he called for a blocking foul A goal tend on Butler the refs didn't call A charge on Mc Coy where he was called for blocking A goal tend on UWM they figured was a make up call A travel that turned into a blocking foul on Tigert Joah getting "knocked over" which turned into a "jump ball."
Frankly I am sick of seeing this crap game after game. We get hammered and don't get the calls. And pointing to our getting more FT's than the other guys doesn't prove anything. Against CSU we could spent the whole game at the FT line. Same against WSU (at least the Milwaukee game, I didn't see the one in their place).
It's hard to believe that when we post up on nearly every position there's only three fouls called.
The guys played hard, I have no complaints about Jeter's style. He has to have a system in place for next year too. I do wish they'd gone for the foul on the inbounds pass but they didn't.
Let's just win out get them on our court in the tourney and blow their freaking doors off.

You're right. We did have numerous looks from the outside. And no, we weren't able to get them to go down. That is because we don't have an Ed McCants type player this year. There is no one who can consistently get those shots to fall. The system would work a lot better if we had a player who could consistently get those shots to fall.

I agree we got hosed on the schedule; four game road trips are very unusual and unfair, just as Loyola's six game homestand was. Oh well...
Let's rise above blaming the loss on the refs.

Actually milwsport, since YSU was added to the league causing an unbalanced schedule, I believe one team has had to make a 4 game road swing 4 of 5 years. 2005-6 was UWM, 2004-5 was UWGB, 2003-4 there were none, 2002-3 was CSU, and 2001-2 was WSU, in which the Raiders opened the HL with 4 away games, not a good way to start the conference season, especially when Butler was ranked #20 at the time for the first of those 4 games.
Strangely enough none of the founding members of the HL have had 4 straight away games in league play. A lot of this could be because of the scheduling of the arenas for things other than basketball at some of the schools, so dates may not have been open to play a home game.

Ok I must have heard it wrong, they must have meant UWM's first four game road trip in the HL.
I find it hard to believe that there HAS to be a four game road swing. It's simple. You switch one of our early home games like the one we played against WSU for the one where we played them on the road.
Boom you have a two game road trip, one at home and one on the road. Then there's the stupidity of taking the team that has the best attendance and putting half of its league schedule during the Christmas break.

No offense dude, but...we are in first place in the conference by one game.
WI would be doing much better I'm assuming if they wouldn't have lost two key players due to academic ineligibility.

"As for Wimmer, when's the last time you remember seeing him on the court?"
Not to correlate Wimmer and losses, but he was in during important minutes in the UWGB road game and the game at Wright St. on thursday.
Not sure if the rest of the comments were directed at me, but I like Jeter and I know his system does/will work.

Maybe he puts him in there as a message to the rest of the team, sort of like "You guys are playing poorly so it doesn't matter if I put him in there."
It could also be because Wimmer plays hard in practice and he thinks the guy has earned some minutes or maybe he has plans for him next year.

I find it hard to believe that there HAS to be a four game road swing. It's simple. You switch one of our early home games like the one we played against WSU for the one where we played them on the road. A large part of the HL schedule is done the way it is because of what the ADs of the conference have requested. Your scenerio above should never happen. If WSU's home/away games with UWM were switched, then WSU would have to make 2 seperate trips to Wisconsin to play UWM and UWGB. We go to Ohio twice, Butler comes to Wisconsin twice, why can't an Ohio team come here twice?
