Lets not all forget that the Panthers are the best team in this conference, and through the course of a season even the best teams have their ups and downs. When it is all said and done I still believe that we will be going to the tournament

Attendance: 7,101
Good attendance for a HL game. A good Butler is great for the league.

"My guys did everything I asked them to do," Milwaukee head coach Rob Jeter said. "They played hard and through adversity. We got the ball in the post and we get to the point where we could shoot free throws and we don't. If you are going to tell me, the way that I've been taught the game of basketball, the way I played the game of basketball, that for 15 minutes and 42 seconds, that any team I've been associated with does not get more than three fouls called for them, and we touched the post every time ... it was hard for me to come up the steps (from the locker room)."
Fire up Panthers. Lots of hoops to be played.

I think it could be a huge shot in the arm for this team for Jeter to speak out about the lack of calls they have been getting of late. In every other conference the "top dog" gets the benefit of the doubt on a lot of calls. This season Milwaukee hasn't been getting the calls they have earned by being the best team in the league. I think they come out on Thursday and completely manhandle Youngstown State and use this loss to propel them the rest of the way this season.

LeCrone unearthed Phil Bova for this game, good god. Referees were very tenative, really wanted to let the players play (too much, And1 Mix Tape Tour games have more foul calls). Tigert about got his arm ripped out on a Crone "blocked shot" in OT, with no call. The last possession, Tucker smacked Crone in the face (not intentionally) posting up, then I thought charged on Crone before the bailout jump ball. You make 600-700 bucks for three hours work, have the guts to call something. Block/charge either way, make a call.
I didn't really agree with the court storming, but it was a big weekend on campus with the 150th teams being named. First really big win after two down years. Kind of a "we're back" statement.
Surprised by the lack of UWM fans, maybe 100 or so, but not many. But 7100 was our best crowd of the year.
Ralph Reiff, our color guy, is a pure homer. He was the former athletic trainer before going to work for a local hospital. But Chris Denari, the play by play, is the local Fox sportscaster and does a great job, he does the WNBA Fever play by play and helps on the Indy 500 radio broadcast.
Still think the tourney will be at the MECCA, no way Butler is going to sweep Wright State, Green Bay and Detroit on the road. Win out and you'll be fine. But this won't be the last matchup between us this year.

"I've got to stick up for my guys," Jeter said, his voice starting to quiver. "For it to happen the way it happened, it's not right to them. The seven seniors that I have, that have worked hard; for those guys, it's not right the way it happened the way it did. "I'm a man, I can take losses. I'm going to be here for a while, but my seven seniors won't. It's unfortunate it had to happen in such a great place." www.jsonline.com/sports/coll/feb06/389952.aspHang in there Rob. I like your style. This is going to be an interesting finish to this season. GO PANTHERS

We still have a one game lead, and Butler and WSU have WAY tougher remaining schedules than we do.

I hear an undercurrent of discontent with Rob's system and I feel it's unwarranted. Here's why:
A comparative look at the box scores of the state's three major college teams from yesterday reveals that Marquette in its 72-67 loss to Villanova shot five fewer times from two-point range (39-34) and was whistled for eight more fouls (20-12). Wisconsin in its 70-62 loss at Purdue shot six fewer times from two-point range (43-37) and was whistled for three more fouls (19-16). Meanwhile, the Panthers repeatedly took the ball to the basket as the swing offense calls for and which by the way is a great recipe to combat poor perimeter shooting. As a result, Milwaukee outshot Butler 48-36 from two-point range. The vast majority of those shots, as you know, were from within a few feet of the basket. The result? Milwaukee is called for two MORE fouls (18-16) and is sent to the foul line only once in the last 15 minutes, 42 seconds of game action? Ridiculous. Adrian continues to get the absolute worst whistle in the league. Rob is dejected because the swing offense has been rewarded for its patience, systematic appoach everywhere he's been. Remember, the Horizon League logo may have UWM's colors but the commissioner's office is still located in Indianapolis.

I'm extremely worried about our lack of size coming into next year but for the most part Rob has done a good job. While the facts that you bring up point to Rob's offense and foul calls, the reasons that have caused my concern for Rob's coaching have been his strange substitutions and his end of game management. The second issue willl come with experience, but its tough to deal with at the present. I can't see any reason that we shouldn't wonder why he puts in Young and Pancratz so late in the game. I'm fine with Rob in the aspects you discussed.

Fan:
There was certainly no intent to single you out. I was talking more specifically about phone conversations I had in the wake of yesterday's game. I have also been somewhat confused by other aspects of Rob's game management. I think it's perfectly acceptable to question why Rob would insert Tyrone into the lineup for the first time in overtime.

Rob is in a pretty tough spot. He inherited 7 Sr.'s who were successful running and pushing the basketball. Obviously as a first year coach, he wants to implement his style of coaching, pounding the ball inside and getting to the line. Unfortunately for him, this year's team is not that style of team. There is no reason why we only score in the 50s. For us to be successful, we need to get to the high 60s-70s. Hopefully we can get to the tournament because of the talent we have and in the future be able to recruit the players for the program to be successful.
Also, there is pretty much NO reason for Young, Pancratz, or Wimmer to see the floor. They are too much of a liability on the offensive end, where we have had problems all year.

Again in all fairness, we should have scored in the high 60s or low 70s yesterday were it not for the officiating of Phil Bova and crew. Honestly, when do you ever remember a team in the heart of the league season with first place on the line and in such a physical battle being whistled for a meager three fouls (THREE?) in over 15 minutes of game action. I've been to hockey games with more infractions called during the same span of time.

I was at the game, and understood perfectly why he inserted young into the game at the point he did. Should butler have missed the last freethrow UWM needed to secure the rebound. Tyrone young wasn't in the game to score, or even play defense. He is a leaper, and Jeter recognized that so he put him in to out jump the butler players on the floor.

I too wonder about his substitutions. Makes no sense. And I don't understand this offense he runs either. I know Bo Ryan runs the same one, but it isn't working for them either!
