Maybe Bill is Milwaukee's shock jock...Howard Stern made a move to Sirius this morning...maybe so we dont have to censor Bill he should make a move also...Although I doubt Sirius' stock will double like it did with Stern, gotta still love Bill J

"A radio broadcast isn't the place to vent or take personal shots. I'm not sure what's difficult to understand about that." When hasn't AM radio been a place for this type of broadcast? Touche. Todd

He is a broadcaster calling it as he sees it. There's nothing wrong with that and it keeps the broadcasts entertaining.
If the Butler Broadcasters takes shots at our players I might disagree with him and say so, but I'm not going to mad over his saying it. Maybe that's the difference here.
The Butler guys aren't denying what Johnson said was true, they are just mad that he said it. Apparently they think it's okay to whine, it's just not okay for anyone to point out that you're doing it.

He is a broadcaster calling it as he sees it. There's nothing wrong with that and it keeps the broadcasts entertaining. Exactly, like him or not, he is an emotional guy, who gets into the games, and enjoys what he is doing! You gotta respect that! For what it is worth, I really enjoy Bill - although I can also see the other side of the coin, where he might piss a few people off. I don't think what he said is really any different than what many others continually get away with....i.e. Steven A. Smith for example, makes his living by generating "edgy" comments........Jim Rome (don't need to explain what he does/says)........even Doug Gottlieb, to an extent (especially when he called out Brian Butch as being a bust last year). It just so happens that Bill ruffled some feathers this time........time heals, and before you know it, the BU board will be on to something else. I think this topic has been beaten to death........let's talk about the upcoming LU game - and if you are really bored, you can think about responses to the LU posts that will no doubt be floating around in the next few days - "LeCrone wants UWM to win" "HL has a conspiracy theory to help BU and UWM" etc...... haha

From the Loyola Fan Board regarding the broadcast: "Personally, I thought the guy's comments were funny and pretty accurate. I guess the truth hurts for Butler fans, though. " They have a thread about the Butler whining about the broadcast. It's pretty funny to read. It's called "Classic Thread on the Butler Board" p206.ezboard.com/framblermaniafrm1.showMessage?topicID=6885.topic

He is a broadcaster calling it as he sees it. There's nothing wrong with that and it keeps the broadcasts entertaining. Maybe, as long as he's as tough on the home team as he is the opposition. I haven't listened to Bill Johnson enough to know whether that's the case or not. Nothing is worse than a guy who'll take potshots at the opponent and, at the same time, pretend the home team can do no wrong. Of course, it's always the other teams' players who are the troublemakers, etc., right? Even a staunch fan should realize that's not the case. I didn't catch all of his comments but several of them seem like nothing more than the ranting of a common fan. There's nothing wrong with a broadcaster wanting the team he works for to do well. Of course, that's to be expected. But it's possible to do that without losing all objectivity, let alone taking cheap shots at long departed players.

Point(s) well taken........and for what it is worth, I have heard him be less than complimentary of the Panthers at times..... But most of the time, he is pro-UWM, as he should be! In other words, he isn't a complete homer, but generally speaking, he calls it like he sees it.

None of these guys are play-by-play men. Steven A. Smith and Jim Rome are, more or less, editorialists, which is a different line altogether. Doug Gottlieb is a little different, although I mostly see him in the studio, also offering opinion, rather than simply calling games. You can be critical of something, without stepping over the line. Saying something like, "Smith seems to enjoy filibustering the refs, this evening" can be both humorous and informative, delivered in the right way. But saying, "They must teach a course in whining at Butler" or whatever it was that Johnson said, is crossing the line for a guy who's supposed to be calling the game. Todd

I'd take 4 hours of Bill Johnson over Rome and his clones who are all tools, don't get me started on Steven A. although I can take him much better than Rome. Oye it's no wonder that dancing w/the stars is so popular.

What's really interesting here is that fans from another school, Loyola, are taking the Butler fans to task for their whining about the broadcast. Apparently they didn't seem to think Bill did anything out of line

Apparently they didn't seem to think Bill did anything out of line Let me get this straight. Loyola fans taking Butler fans to task is okay. Milwaukee fans taking Butler fans to task is okay. But Butler fans taking taking Bill Johnson to task is whining. Perhaps the Butler fans are just calling them as they see them, to quote a phrase I've seen more than once in this thread. Todd

Okay, no more posts from me in this thread. Good luck against Loyola, though I won't exactly be rooting for you. Todd
