After a second round upset vs Gonzaga and a sweet 16 appearence last year, I think Bobby Knight is safe at Tech. I'm pretty sure he lost his two key players from last year (Ronald Ross & Jarious Jackson). The General is in no danger.

Memphis looks really, really good and so young if they stick around look out. Not a bad team to play right out of the gates it gives us something to shoot for.
I find it ironic in the NIT thread Panthrholic posted a Memphis fans predictions of how the NIT would go and so far he's almost right on the money. I have to give credit where credit is due.

yes he's close, and we're talking about him over at our board too. here are his predictions couple of weeks ago
UWM-They have 4 of 5 starters returning from a team that knocked off Alabama in the first round of the NCAA's and then Boston College to advance to the Sweet 16. They even finished national ranked at #23. But despite having so much experience from a S16 team, they still have to learn the new system under their new head coach Rob Jeter. They also lost their star and conference POY Ed McCants to graduation. But it will be hard to stop the Top 15 nationally ranked Tigers with the talents of Carney and Washington coming back and ready for a title run and the adition of Cal's new "AASAA" press and up tempo style of play. The Panthers could keep it close early, but expect the Tigers talent and experience with DWash and Carney to step up in the second half to pull away and advance.
Memphis 86 UWM 72
Alabama-The tide has a set of stars returning but lost it's top recruit due to grades. The Tide has more problems though and that is with lack of size and depth compared to the Tigers bench. Steele will be tough to stop and Davis will eat up the boards, but Memphis has alot of bodies to throw at him to shut or slow him down. Plus, Bama will have to be on their toes the whole game because of the new style of play by Cal, but may not have enough gas to stay with the high flying Tigers to advance to NY.
Memphis 82 Alabama 70
UCLA-The Bruins have one of their best talented teams since the late 90's led by All-American candidate Jordan Farmer. They also have a set of guards in Arron Afflalo and Cedric Bozeman that are really quick and dangerous and play the old up and down the floor UCLA basketball. But can their athleticsm and quickness match up to the Tigers? The qanswer to that question might be the fact that this Memphis squad might be the most versatile and athletic and deepest team in the entire nation. Hard to slow that down. The only thing the Tigers aren't is experienced. But talent can overcome experience and the Tigers have alot of it!
Memphis 78 UCLA 71
DUKE-The number 1 team in the land will have everyone hyped up over this early showdown at Madison Square Garden. A possible top 10 matchup. The guard play by both teams will determine the outcome. Who handles the ball better, who shoots better and takes better shots and who creates more for their team. With the talent and experience of DWash compared to just the experience of Dockery, I will go with DW on this one. But Duke does have JJ Reddick and Sheldon WIlliams. Those two could be the difference maker in the game. But if Shawne Williams and Rodney Carney step up and produce, then an upset could be in the making .But look for someone like Cooper or Dozier to be the difference coming off the bench to supply the Tigers with versatillity and athletic depth down low. Williams will have his hands full being pulled away from the basket by the Memphis atheltes. And that could be the way Memphis pulls off the biggest win in school history and one of the bigggest early season wins in a long time! But the Tigers must try to get Sheldon in foul trouble early for that to happen and Redick to force some bad shots late. But the ending of the game could come down to Reddick and DWash, who makes the bigger plays. My money's on Dwash!
Memphis 77 Duke 74

Like many others I was disappointed by the results of this game. But it's worth remembering last year.
One week we lost to Wisconsin by a landslide. The next week we almost beat then #2 Kansas at Kansas.

Yea, we went over the Wisconsin loss last year earlier in the thread.
In my editorial this week, I talk about the value of this learning experience. UWM learned a lot about themselves last year after the Wisconsin game, and they used that to their advantage against Kansas. Look for a crisper UWM team that will do major damage to UIU underneath. Boo Davis will probably get much better looks, I don't suspect he'll miss as many shots.

Memphis plays UCLA tonight in NYNY. I'll be interested in seeing how this young team reacts to the trip to the Big Apple to play in a fairly high-profile game.

I'll be interested in seeing how this young team reacts to the trip to the Big Apple to play in a fairly high-profile game. and we ended up beating them by only 8 points with darius hurt. then lost to duke by @$#@ 3 points!!! i hate vitale with a passion! Washington will sit out next two home games after playing in NY due to his injury.
