Because in the three games I've been to I've seen less than 20 student fans at a division 1 basketball game. My high school basketball games averaged at least a couple hundred fans a game.

Yeah that's true it's branched off a little bit. I personally think we need to simply get students at the Cell before we worry about what they're called, what we're going to do to get them loud etc.

This topic keeps going because it's clear to everyone new to this board that the name no longer applies and makes little sense.

Because in the three games I've been to I've seen less than 20 student fans at a division 1 basketball game. My high school basketball games averaged at least a couple hundred fans a game. This is a good point. However, you must have missed some of the bigger games in recent years (win over UIC to clinch NCAA berth, every UWGB game, most of the Butler games, etc.). The student section has not been represented as well as it could be for the majority of home games, and that does need to be addressed. I recall around the time of the UWGB game last year, some people from this board were very instrumental in filling up the Cell with a ton of students (it could be seen nationally on ESPN2 as my roomate at the time who didn't attend the game told me). The bottom line when it comes to student interest in UWM basketball is simply- winning. But with the right efforts, I really think we could boost attendance significantly- both in the student section, and the Arena as a whole. For those of you on the board who are current students- spread the word! This year's team figures to be a fun group to watch. Remind students that tickets are FREE for them (I can't tell you how many of my classmates (when I was an undergrad) had no clue that they could get into UWM games for free, and were very enthused about attending games after knowing this). We can post on-campus fliers before big (esp. Wisconsin(!!)) games, and really all games, reminding students to show their UWM pride. If this year's team plays (remotely like) the way they are capable of and starts (gasp) making some headlines in the Urinal Slantinal Sports Section (sorry JS- I just love that nickname), the sleeping masses will awake (think- everyone and their Mom who was a proud UWM fan when we went to the Sweet 16), and the US Cellular Arena will become a scary place for opposing teams. That's my take. It is a very real possibility.

The Post Draft Expert saw an old thread, that's all.
And while I think Nighthawk is totally right with the Cell Block, I believe that U.S. Cellular blocks that name.
Of course, 206 could be the Cell Block...I mean, where else would you expect to find NO MERCY! COBRA KAI!

I suspect one would see this topic go round and round for years to come simply because there's not necessarily one person who says, " ...ok, Cell Block it is....we'll now take a vote of the Klotsche Krazies Renaming Committee and present our results to the KK Executive Board for final approval...."
If someone wants to change it, make a/some sign(s) and consistently show up at games. Folks will either buy into it or not. Getting consensus a) on this board will be impossible and b) will be irrelevant vs. what actually occurs at games.

Call it the Cell Block. I'm making a sign for the Panther-Badger game... and telling 3 friends to do the same.
((I thought "The Panther Den" would only make sense and sound cool.. but UNI already has dibs on that apparently..)). The Cell Block it will be.... once, as uwmfan pointed out, it has been promoted and accepted.
I think all here would agree... but I'm pretty d&^% excited for this coming season.

Are we going to change it again when U.S. Cellular pulls out some day?

Are we going to change it again when U.S. Cellular pulls out some day? We have a while before that issue would have to be dealt with. The U.S. Cellular Arena lives on Posted: June 8, 2007 For at least seven more years, the U.S. Cellular Arena will remain the U.S. Cellular Arena.
The Wisconsin Center District, which owns and operates the arena, announced Friday that the telecommunications company had renewed the naming rights into the year 2014.
The naming rights and designation as the exclusive wireless provider to the district first began in 2000. The contract combines cash payments and wireless services to the Wisconsin Center District totaling more than $2.4 million.
The U.S. Cellular Arena is home to the UW-Milwaukee men's basketball team and the Milwaukee Wave of the Major Indoor Soccer League. It also is the home for Disney on Ice, the Tripoli Shrine Circus, and concerts and corporate events.
The district is also negotiating with at least two groups to lease the arena for an arena football team.
"U.S. Cellular is a fantastic partner, and the Wisconsin Center District greatly appreciates the company's investment in our facilities," said Franklyn Gimbel, chairman of the district's board of directors.www.jsonline.com/story/index.aspx?id=617088Get the students to start wearing horizontal black and yellow or black and white shirts, too. Swaying students in stripes would be very distracting to free throw shooters. And then Section 206 becomes the Halfway House, since it's dominated by former students who have been "released" for good behavior. (At least I think it is, anyway.) We could start calling home games "Hell in the Cell" for opposing teams. (i.e. "40 minutes of Hell" made famous by the 1994 Arkansas team who pressed and played tenacious defense.) Fouled out opponents could be razzed and their names put up in the student section "behind bars". (No more copy cat "left, right, left" chants stolen from UW-Madison and others.) Hold up a Monopoly type "Go Directly to Jail" sign and chant "Fresh Fish" (Shawshank Redemption). Nothing vulgar, nothing demeaning (I think), but clever and clear.

Can't do the Cell Block, the Tripoli Shrine Circus' crazy fan section has dibs on that.

I think we should just alter the name slightly, as Freak put it "Klotsche's Krazies"
the Cell is a corporation that will leave one day, J. Martin Klotsche will always be our 1st Chancellor.
