Don't forget about Newcomer of the Year, Leon Young. Loyola will be tough and better than UWGB I agree that UWGB will be good, most likely better than in years past. Especially if they can overcome the less-than-average coaching. However, I think we all feel that UWM will be far from the last place slot. I expect them to challenge for the league title, but would be pleased with a 3rd or 4th place finish.

When I look at Shactner and Tillema and compare them to Adrian his freshman year. It is a no brainer that AT was more skilled than those two on many levels. The Horizon has some pretty athletic teams. I can most def see those kids from GB developing nicely but seeing how they are so damn unathletic they could struggle. They dont have half the basketball iq AT did and I dont think they are as crafty to put it in the hole..I dont know...this is as unbiased as possible, but GB will struggle....Next year is their year if they want to do something in the league...with Evanoshko running the point is their best chance otherwise they lose his solid guard play...but I seriously think Loyola finally puts something together...and those puppies at UIC are no slouch either...more athletic....Loyola, UIC, UWM, UWGB, are my top 4...but I do feel quite badly for leaving Det out of there..Goode and Cotton is the best guard combo in the league next year

Anyone comparing Shactner and Tillema favorably to AT can put that baby to bed right now. Neither of them can be as good as AT at their peak.

The thing that tells the story was the blow out loss to Butler in the HL tourney. Yes Butler was a decent team but no way should a team that thinks it will win the league next year lose by that kind of margin to a team like Butler.

Exactly. A 22-point loss to Butler is like a 35-point loss to anyone else. The Bulldogs controlled that game as much as Arizona dominated against Wisconsin or Wichita St. against Seton Hall.

Leon Young was not Newcomer of the Year....it went to Jeffers @ UIC. CBS Sportsline named Young Freshman of the Year, but Jeffers was not a freshman...he's a sophomore transfer...
I was quite impressed with UWGB last year for being so young. I really think they will be tough next year. I'm not sure about a 1st place finish, but it's tough to argue if Loyola will be better or not.
I think Detroit will finish at the top....and I am going to throw UIC in the mix. They are only losing Bowen and have some nice players coming in...a nice 6'11" tranfer too. I expect UWM to finish middle of the pack. If UWM finishes top-3 next year, I will honestly be shocked, and impressed. And if they finish higher than UIC, I will be calling for Collins' head once again.

Hey Big D, have you seen Vander Meer play? Granted I'm basing my observation off of me seeing him play 2 years ago at Bowling Green, but I was not too impressed. It will be interesting to see how the season plays out. The top 2 teams to start the season should be Detroit & Loyola, but both teams have huge question marks.
To show I am not just ragging on UIC, congrats to Granderson. I think he will be a hell of a player this year for the Tigers.

Kings,
A couple years ago, UIC played at Bowling Green, and Vandermeer hurt us pretty bad....he had a few points, 7 boards, and like 4 blocks in very little time. Most of us are not expecting too much offensively but I think he could be a force defensively, especially at 6'11". And lord knows UIC needs all the defensive help it can get. Other than that though, I don't know much about his game, and his numbers aren't that impressive. Hopefully, he's improved in his time off...
Granderson is an awesome player. He kind of reminds me of Corey Patterson and the hype that he got with the Cubs...you know, the player with all the tools. Granderson can do it all....last year, he showed his speed with an inside-the-park homer, and he also made some leaping catches to rob homers. I wish we could've kept him in Chicago.

UIC is such a mystery to me. I figured they would be down some this year..next year if they develop some more and learn to win I really do think they can compete in the league..I honestly feel the top five spots are up in the air between GB, UWM, UIC, Det, and Loyola....and then there is the second tier of teams...Butler, and the three Ohio teams...so I guess this is my prediction for next year even though we have lots of time to go
1. Detroit 2. Loyola 3.UWM 4.UIC 5.UWGB 6.Butler 7.Wright State 8.Youngstown State 9 Cleveland state...
Ohio is so rich in hs basketball talent I just dont understand why these three horizon league teams can not put something together and challenge for the league....
So I have Detroit winning the Regular season crown and UWM beats them in the semi-finals and we play Loyola down at the Gentile Center and lose as Blake Schilb finally beats UWM...but then loyola gets a 14 seed and gets beat by Tennessee as they are a 3 seed by 30 plus points and Bruce Pearl shakes Schilbs hand and says I wont see you next year...because I am making a sh*t ton of money in Knoxville and you'll be in Afghanastan playing professional hoops

I don't see what you see. Detroit doesn't have enough to take it. I think it will be between Loyola and UIC with UWM possibily contending depending on Jeter recruits.
