Just coat-tailing on Hack's post: Thad has obviously been greatly successful and Stan falls closer to the Dan Monson category — the road less travelled might have been the far better choice. These decisions can clearly be a crapshoot.

Here it is again in a newer page if people didnt see it....from jsonline.com...
Iowa St. asks to talk to Jeter Iowa State athletic director Jamie Pollard requested and was granted permission by UW-Milwaukee athletic director Bud Haidet to talk to Panthers coach Rob Jeter about the Cyclones men's basketball opening, Haidet confirmed Monday afternoon.
"They've asked to talk to him, which really is a professional courtesy because you can't somebody from talking to somebody anyhow," Haidet said.
Haidet and Pollard also discussed Jeter's buyout clause.
Jeter is in the first year of a five-year deal that paid him $300,000 this season. If another school lures Jeter away in the first year of the deal, the "liquidated damage" clause calls for UWM to receive three times his current salary, or approximately $900,000.
Jeter was unavailable for comment Monday afternoon.

Thad Matta -- one successful year at Butler, a couple at Xavier ... now has a Big Ten title at Ohio State. Stan Heath at Kent State also comes to mind. Yeah Heath is a dead ringer but Matta strikes me as a different case as he was an assistant there for years previous.

Then you're saying all the kind words about Bruce, Rome and others is? You have to give equal treatment and the only part of this that is close to anything editable is saying kids. If I can't say that I hate someone then you have a problem sir. The parts about him being yellow-bellied and never a Panther shouldn't be deleted as they are true. How can you not hate him? The correct answer if you care an ounch about the school you're at is "No thank you" or "I love Milwaukee and I'm not going to leave." He can be money-driven and career obsessed but then he's not the special coach that I want at my school. Not hating Jeter right now is like totally blaming the guy (or not caring) when your wife cheats on you. WOW. I think Jeter's response has been fine. He says his heart is in Milwaukee and he is committed to his players. He also said he'll listen to what Pollard has to say. You really can't blame the man for at least listening. After all if he doesn't at least be courteous to someone showing interest in him, he may be burning a bridge he'd like to have a few years down the road.

my g/f and i watched Jeter's show last night and based off of body language and attitude he didn't seem like he wanted to leave but didn't want to be disrespectful and just flat out say no. As opposed to last year on the final edition of Pearl's show, you KNEW he was gone because he couldn't even look Rock in the eye when talking about it ... his eyes were fixed on the floor.

You knew Pearl was gone when during the pep rally before the Illinois game he said that he wanted people to promise that they'd still support the program next year. He didn't say "I'm going to need you," he said "The program is going to need you."

Let's not forget that ISU has not even made any offers yet (and maybe they never will). It certainly would not be an uncontroversial hire at ISU given Jeter's limited head coaching experience. I believe they will make at the end the "safe choice" and will offer to a more seasoned coach. As for Jeter, accepting an ISU offer (if one should come along) carries some risks for him as well. Should he fail there, people would view his one year of success in Milwaukee as being caused by what he inherited here and he would be left with a negative head coaching track record. He might be better off building a solid head coaching resume first before walking into a situation where he might not succeed. This kind of risk was much lower for Pearl who already had established an outstanding coaching resume before he left for Tennessee. Anyway, people leaving all the time and across different industries for better opportunities, whether perceived or real. This is not just the "life of a mid-major", this is life.

Jeter isn't going anywhere. I highly doubt that Iowa St. will eat the $900,000 buyout of his contract with us. They are still on the books for Morgan's salary. I think that would be too much for them, on a somewhat unproven coach.

You can't blame Jeter for this Iowa State stuff.
They called him. He didn't call them.
Hell, I get calls from recruiters all the time asking if I'm looking for a new job.

Looking on cnnsi.com truth and rumors it says that Fred Hoiberg is interested in the job and being an alum may give him some prescedence. Also what are the chances of Bidlingmeyer being the head coach if Rob left? I would like Bidlingmeyer alot, he seemed like he knew what he was doing and he recruited alot of the guys we would be getting for next year. It would allow for a smooth transition considering Rob doesnt bring them with him to ISU IF he goes. I think he is here for the long run.

ok if ppl are gonna debate fan's comments, please do it via PMs or some other way as this is going on too long on this thread. i don't blame jeter for talking to iowa state considering its from a guy he knows there. i believe he's being respectful and not trying to burn any bridges. my g/f and i watched Jeter's show last night and based off of body language and attitude he didn't seem like he wanted to leave but didn't want to be disrespectful and just flat out say no. i don't think he'll go considering he only has one year of head coaching experience, which is unlike Matta considering he coached at Xavier prior to Butler. Pantherholic, you and panther97, hackpanther and any other of you mindless people im forgetting should be the last ones to tell people to PM "fan". You guys get off topic more than anyone on this board.......thus the reason I no longer chose to post. Fan has the right to state his opinion on the subject (isn't that the pooint of a disscussion board). All you guys ever do is post back and forth between eachother about subjects you clearly know nothing about. You guys claim to have inside information which 90% of the time turns out to be bogus anyway........ so I say to you let the man speak his mind.......you guys might try doing something with you life other than sit on a message board and try to limit what others have to say...............PEACE I'M OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

. Also what are the chances of Bidlingmeyer being the head coach if Rob left? I'd say zero to none.......I like Bids, but I just don't think that he is ready to take over (yet) - and I think he would tell you the same thing.
