if this site can really produce that kind of money it should be done. That is a nice sum of money for the panther fund.

chartered flight to chicago, what?! heck, yeah! that'd be freakin sweet! sounds like something a private school would do . but in all seriousness, being able to travel to away games would be huge for our team. fan support on the road is critical for our continued success. also may i propose d-board tee-shirts?? and with my 100th post, i raise a glass and make a toast: to all those who wish the panthers well, and those who don't can go to hell.

i'd prefer a coach bus w/ 2 barrels (one for each way of the ride) in the back and drinking games, music, etc.

Let me just add some input here....
1) If you decide to make money off this message-board by having 3rd party ads, you first need to pay to make this board ad-free (link at the bottom). I believe this is one of those unwritten proboards rules (or maybe it's written). I'm sure it would cost little money in comparison to what you estimate your profits to be....which brings me to.....
2) Do you really think you can make $60,000 by March? Something doesn't sound right there? If it were that easy, I'd quit my job and start a full-time message board.
3) Even if you do make some money and things become just peachy in the background, in the foreground, the fans will likely get annoyed with the ads....just really make sure you don't agree to pop-ups or pop-unders....something like the google ads near the top would be good.

Ok, more questions.
How were you approached about this idea in the first place? Was it research you were doing or did someone contact you about selling the space?
What guarantee do you have that you'll make that much money? Did your contact say you could make "at least" $10k or "up to" $10k in a few months? There's a big difference there. I'm skeptical to think that the board will be that successful.
Yes, there is money in selling ad space, but not as much as you might think for this limited demographic. This target audience is men, ages 18-25, and after that women of the same age. The target also consists of people from Wisconsin (mostly) who are (mostly) caucasian and who mostly spend their money at bars on the weekends. The target is embracing the college lifestyle, where their buying habits are limited by a part-time income and obscene east-side living expenses. Whatever money we have left is usually spent on groceries and beer, which leaves little other money to spend on whatever the ads want to sell us. (And they don't need to advertise to us FOR beer because our drinking habits have pretty much already been established, and it's worthless to advertise beer in Milwaukee of all cities anyway.)
While this is a desirable demographic for a few advertisers, there are many other sites out there that already target this demographic that we already frequent. For example, espn.com and even more close to us is uwmpanthers.com. ESPN has the potential of reaching millions of people per day, and uwmpanthers.com can reach a few hundred people per day, at most.
While this board has the potential to reach dozens or even hundreds of people per day, our subject matter is so limited that I doubt it ever well. With the experiences I've had in advertising and buying media, this board is not a desirable advertising target for anyone (other than the bookstore, who is interested in advertising to us, but not on the $10,000 scale) because we are already getting the messages they want us to hear in other places.
I'd appreciate it if someone could take the time to answer my questions. Thanks!

Rissa..........I agree that the demographic of the board is primarily 18-25, however, there are considerably more 30+ posters than you probably realize (PantherLou, Dylanrocks, Hack, Kaygee, Pnthr97, uwmfan, creamcity, myself, etc..........to name a few off the top of my head). My point is, the board is not "only" college kids - actually far from it, seeing as most of those I mentioned are very active posters.

Hey pnthr30, I did not mean that the 18-25 was the only age range on the board, just that it's what advertisers would probably see as the primary demographic considering the subject matter. I know there are a lot of alums and community fans who post on here, which is awesome. I was just looking for more info on how we came to the amounts of money that will be paid for the ads and what kinds of ads will actually be run. Thanks!

Seems to me like Pnthr30 has already grouped himself into the 30+ category. I've never known someone to jump the gun on turning 30. Pnthr30, you're officially an honorary member of the 30+ club.

Rissa - I know, I wasn't tyring to "attack" you or your post, just giving some of us "older" folks some recognition. And pnthr97........heck, I am married, have 2 kids, we are in our second house, and own a minivan for crying out loud........forget the actual number, that is "old" anyway you slice it! haha ;D
