few statements from me: 1) softball = no money will go towards softball. theres inside jokes there that those that arent on the team dont understand (IE Dunzz's gold-plated shoes). so dont worry about that. lou's got the tab at O'Donahues every night anyway 2) new board = I have no problem with the board we have now and the changes that have been made ... so far. I would not be in favor for changing to a board that would cost money when we have a nice free board as is. 3) ads = whats the big deal with a few more ads? no body complains about the google ad at the top. I think this could be a decent experiment to test out this summer. 4) money = I have confidence in us that any money made from Advertisements on the board will only go towards UWM Basketball. pay for a bus trip, donate to the athletics program, buy us all the trucker hats and bobblehead promotions we were promised at the beginning of last season... whatever it is, I'm confident that every member of this board will be notified of spendings and have a say in how it is used.

Why don't we save up some money in order to get an affordable bus trip to Memphis for our Preseason NIT first-round game on November 15th?

Why don't we save up some money in order to get an affordable bus trip to Memphis for our Preseason NIT first-round game on November 15th? this, my friends, is a great idea. I have no idea what kind of money can be generated from ads on this board during the summer months, but if enough could be gathered to at least lower the costs for a bus trip, I dont see why anyone would object to this idea. to further develop this idea, I propose this: we test Ads on this board throughout the summer months and see what we can generate. we also take these summer months to discuss the future of the board and whether it is important enough to for us to change services.

I like the pantherfund idea after contemplating and I think bus trips and being able to lower those prices is also a hell of a good idea....and yes Dunzz should get a small chunk of change for time, efforts, and the new ideas he is putting into this...especially if he makes money for this board and those who post on it

Keep in mind that by simply donating any funds to the Panther Fund, we are able to avoid the details/difficulties of planning and organizing events such as bus trips.
By donating, we allow the university to use the funds as needed. We are able to specify how funds will be allocated (ie. Basketball, Student Functions, General Scholarship, etc.)
Also, and this is a huge point: If you want to be taken seriously, you need to donate money. For all the talk that goes on here, if you (we) want to make an impact, it will happen by GIVING MONEY TO THE UNIVERSITY. Give money, and we will have an impact on what happens.

Now lets take some questions from someone whos not a jerk. Thank you uwmrissa
Exactly how much money are we talking about here? Posts above range from "not a whole lot" to "quite a bit." So how much is it? Are we talking $200/year? or $10,000? Enough money to cover a bus trip to Tennessee will cost more than just a few hundred bucks.
When i say alot of money, i mean alot of money. Begining in ocotober the board is projected to make about 15000 in the first month. As the season picks up we can allocate new ads. I predict by March this board will make around 60,000.
Do we have any examples of boards that have done this that we can see? Can someone provide links so we can know what other sites look like so we know exactly how many ads we will be getting?
The only other basketball forum with ads is the Wright St Board and the Det Board. These boards are examples of how ads can be obnoxious. This is the type of advertising i will not have.
Will the ads on the new board be obnoxious? People don't mind the google ad at the top because it's small enough to be able to ignore. (Providing examples of other boards can help on this.)
your comment is noted. the ads will not become a hassel or an eye sore.
In order to make money and set up a contract and all this nonsense, y'all need to become a business of some sort, limited or incorporated or a partnership. Have any of you taken this into consideration? What about taxes? Annual reports? Government regulations? Has any of this been considered? Many of you refer to "the board" that will have control over the money. Has such a "board" been established, other than an idea in someone's head?
You are correct. There are a few possibilities. We could start a 501 club with the university. Or is it 401. Which means we will have an actual organization through the school. The other idea is to start a business. There are basically no government regulations. Yes , the organization will have to pay taxes. We are in the process of setting about 5-8 members who will control the money coming into the board. These 5-8 people will include many of the older guys who have been here for a while. There is nothing on paper now so i guess you could say this idea is in someones head.
I'd just like some answers to these questions before I weigh in. I hope you don't think it's snooty of me to ask, but I think they're legitimate.
If you have anymore questions or if you would like me to clear something up dont be afraid to ask.

Did Hoffman get paid???
And no, Dunzz doesn't deserve sh*t for new ideas (nothin personal Dunzz) This is a volunteer type position, if he doesn't like it, then he can step down. Not once in the past 4 years has thisboard been a "moneymaker" what a crock of sh*t, ALL the money better go to the university
GO PANTHERS

For the last time. I myself have not accepted any money from ads. In the future, the only money i would take would be to create a new web site for the forum. and thats it.

i'd be ok w/ Dunzz doing that. if someone is uncomfortable w/ it than all that needs to be done is to keep records of everything so all money is counted for.

i know i've said some unpopular things in the past but honestly i HIGHLY doubt that everyone here will agree to this. Why? b/c u can never make 100% of the people happy 100% of the time. i don't know if once we have more questions answered we simply vote and however the majority votes is what happens or whatever but i'd hate to see feuds start over this. i am curious though as to a ballpark figure of what we stand to make (best and worst case) by putting one or more ads up.

i see the idea for changing the board but i am going to have to agree with bball in the fact that there really doesn't seem to be an outstandingly great idea to change it.
I see where people are going with the idea of wanting to make money off the board but i guess i really don't think it is that amazing of an idea. This is in no way a slam on anybody or the main sticking point that we all have here which is the pride that we all share for our team.
As Dunzz asked earlier if there are those that don't agree post so I am. as everybody else stated it is just my $.02.

i agree. we would have to start advertising in the summer to raise the money. however, i believe by next week we need to esbalish a chain of command in order to make people feel comfortbale with the boards new upgrades.
