Hello Party People, I have figured out the value of our web site and i must say we are all sitting on a gold mind here. OUr site has been rated as a "hot spot" for ad space. Mostly because our demographic is 18-60. Which means there are alot of business willing to pump money into ad space. now before we go any further, i would like everyone to know that all money will go directly into an account which will be controlled and monitered by board members selected. Contracts will be drawn up which specifically state how the money will be moved. In no way will i use this board to benefit my own personal bank account. Therefore i propose we select a board treasurer. In addition, all profits earned will go towards Panther outtings and the Panther fund. Ad space will not begin till the fall, but i would just like to give everyone the heads up so they can give their input before rather than after. Our first business i am looking into is poker sites. Im guessing many of you play poker all the time online with buddies. Here is some info on a possible poker ad. www.pokersourceonline.com/pso/advertise.asp

I have some real concerns about how this money will be handled. While I do not think it will be alot of money it should go to the benefit of the school and all members of the board. Maybe a pre game party at goolsbys or an away game party at a local pub but no money for softball unis- We need to tread lightly on this one.

please, no ads unless the revenue is needed to keep the board viable. I see that a lot of people who have been part of this board a lot longer than me seem to have no problem with it, but I just don't see where it adds value.

I think that any money raised should go to what we are supporting, UWM Athletics

I think that any money raised should go to what we are supporting, UWM Athletics I agree. Here's my thoughts on how any funds should be allocated: #1 - Keeping the board operating. Updating to a better service will cost money, and will be well worth it. I doubt this would be more than a couple hundred per year, at most. I also do not have a problem with a minimal stipend being paid the administrator, because I do realize that it takes time and effort to keep things running smooth. #2 - Whatever is left over should be split up like this, IMO: 75% Panther Fund - Mens basketball 25% Panther Fund - General Parties, softball teams, etc. are not to the benefit of this board or to UWM, and I see no reason that the board should be used to subsidize these things. Just my $.02.......

Actually, we could generate a whole lot more than just that. Considering the hits and the fact that we can confirm our demographic, this site could generate quite a bit of revenue.
And trust me, every dollar does count.

Where do i start......
I have some real concerns about how this money will be handled. While I do not think it will be alot of money it should go to the benefit of the school and all members of the board. Maybe a pre game party at goolsbys or an away game party at a local pub but no money for softball unis- We need to tread lightly on this one.
As mentioned above the money will not be handled by myself or one individual persay. We will set up contracts between our clinents and members of the board which will show were the money will flow. Most likly a bank account controlled by the memebers (emphasis on plural). This way, no one person can take what they want behind anyones back. I agree, we will spend money on pregame parties and post game parties as we see need be. As for the softball uniforms. i was thinking we could buy the whole team gold plated cleats but those cost a bunch and i don't want everyone looking as good as i do. but i doubt we will be using money to buy uniforms.
please, no ads unless the revenue is needed to keep the board viable. I see that a lot of people who have been part of this board a lot longer than me seem to have no problem with it, but I just don't see where it adds value.
I do not know who these people are but they might want to speak up for themselves. The people ive have been talking to have welcomed the idea and think its great. I opened this forum for people to give their opinons. Including those opinons of people who do not want to have ads on the board. So far you are really the only one who does not want ads. I understand your concerns, but i feel the advantage will out way a 700 by 600 banner at the top. additionally, i will be creating a new board to replace this board or to create a rivals board like other schools have. Which means were going to need some cash flow to pay for web space.
I also do not have a problem with a minimal stipend being paid the administrator, because I do realize that it takes time and effort to keep things running smooth.
i agree, don't worry i will take my normal 90% share of whatever we make. J/k i don't require much, just enough to keep the web site running.
I agree with the pop ups...my high school football team has a board and the pop ups are a b****....but money for outings would be nice...maybe get gold shoes for the entire softball team
There will be no pop up ads. I will make this clear right away. They mess up your computer additionally they don't pay out as much. So there is no reason for this board to have pop up ads.
Finally i would like to remind you people of how much money this board could make. I spoke with a market rep and he looked at the board. Only to discover that were the type of board that could make alot of money by selling ad space. As previously mentioned, we receaive many uniq veiwers. Which means our site brings in people from different regions each week. How? Each week the panthers play a different basketball team which means the fans from the opposing team come to our board to talk about the game coming up ahead. Also, around March Madness this web site will be worth alot. Not to mention our regular veiwers give our board good stock.

how about some of the revenue goes towards travel expenses for away games? rent a shuttle van(s) or something and try to get as many people to travel w/ the team. food obviously wouldn't count but gas and rental costs for sure. this could help when March comes around. just a thought.

I don't wanna sound like a crabby stick in the mud here, but I have a few thoughts on this whole situation.
1. No money should be used for softball, it doesn't include the entire board. IF and I mean IF there is money raised, it should go to the athletic department. That is what we are supporting isn't it?
2. I would react in outrage if the Administrator of this board got paid any type of money. I do not know this person however I do feel that this would come across as a scam, not that it is, but could be interpreted this way. If you don't want to handle this position, then step down, never once did I hear Hoffman talk about money, or using banners for fundraising.
3. Why in the hell do you want to change the board? What is wrong with the way we have it now? Just because other schools use rival's boards, that does not mean that we have to do what everyone else does. Personally I like the board the way it has been for 3 or 4 years now. Change to me in this instance is unwelcome.
4. Finally, this board is not a moneymaking tool. This is an open discussion board for discussing Men's basketball and the Milwaukee Panthers. Personally I think SOME not all of the changes that have been made already are pointless I.E. the Drunk Posting. To claim that this board is a "goldmine" is simply wrong, leave it untouched the way it has been, if it's not broken, don't fix it. Right?
Just my two-cents worth here, sorry to rant, but I must say I am disappointed in the changes and ideas that are floating around since the departure of Hoffman. Please just leave this how it has been.
GO PANTHERS
Side note: None of this is personally directed towards anyone, just my own views expressed in general conversation

UWM Dunzz sorry you didn't like the way I worded that, just trying to be non-confrontational to avoid stepping on anybody's toes. I thought the consensus on the thread before me was pretty much in favor of ads, which you basically confirmed in your response. Just trying to tread lightly, not to take away anybody else's voice.
