This is our fourth D-1 in-season tournament championship in school history, matching our accomplishment at the Pizza Hut Classic (at Southwest Missouri State, Springfield, Mo.) in 2002, the NIU Invitational (Dekalb, Ill.) in 2013 and the Black & Gold Shootout in 2017.

Attended all three games. All were very exciting. I actually enjoyed The Klotsche Center. Given that Thanksgiving is a terrible time to schedule don’t have a problem with this event there. Filled, the place would be raucous and loud. I am not saying leave The Panther Arena unless a new Campus facility built, not likely in my lifetime. Improving amenities at The Klotsche is needed for other events scheduled. Food trucks outside and use of entrance to sell Panther and visiting team gear would be great. Put up small hoops for kids. Create a carnival.

I'm glad I renewed my season ticket this year. I'll be keeping it as long as Bart's here, at least. Out of curiosity how much / easy to get are those. I graduate this spring and will lose my student tickets đź’” Very easy to get, and not at all expensive.

UWM basketball is off to a roaring start after sweeping the Cream City Classic
Panthers face quick turnaround for start of Horizon League play Thursday at UW-Green Bay
Curt Hogg Milwaukee Journal Sentinel
The Cream City Classic featured a hometown-flavored sweep.
The UW-Milwaukee Panthers turned up the pressure during a dominant first-half run and turned away Southeast Missouri in a 84-68 win Monday night at the Klotsche Center. The win was the third in as many days for the Panthers, who bulldozed their way through the inaugural event.
Saturday’s win for UWM over UC Davis came on a buzzer-beating three by Justin Thomas. Sunday was a dominant defensive effort against Boston. The icing on the cake Monday featured UWM’s athleticism on display and just the type of play that could make first-year head coach Bart Lundy’s group make some noise in the Horizon League.
"It's just everybody being a dog and coming together and saying, 'Yeah, we got to get back on track and just get 1% better,'" said Panthers guard BJ Freeman, who scored a game-high 23 points Monday. "Everybody came together as a brotherhood and standing as a family and getting the job done."
Conference play begins for UWM on Thursday at Green Bay before the Panthers host IUPUI on Saturday. If they carry over the elements that led them to success over the long weekend, they like their chances.
"We're showing a lot of character," Lundy said. "Everybody's been stars in their roles. We're excited about starting league play. It's a difficult task. Green Bay's had all week to prepare for a home game and we're going to have one day, so we need to rest tomorrow and prep to get a road win."
Trailing, 18-13, midway through the first half, UWM was hurt by careless turnovers and cold shooting from deep.
Thomas stepped into a three and knocked it down to cut the Redhawks’ lead to two, then the Panthers got a stop. Freeman scored a layup on the other end. Then came another stop. And another.
Four minutes later, UWM had rattled off an 18-0 run catalyzed by seven points from Freeman and six forced turnovers to jump ahead, 31-18.
"I thought it was our pressure," Lundy said of what sparked the run. "I did think that over the three days we got to see that we were in a little better shape than maybe the teams we played against. I thought we were wearing teams down."
The Panthers’ halftime lead was 46-31 as Freeman led the way with 12 points on 5 for 10 shooting while Thomas connected on both of his three-point attempts en route to 11 points.
UWM hit 14 of its final 17 field goals of the first half, including 5 of 6 from deep
Turnovers continue to be a thorn in Milwaukee’s side. The Panthers entered play with the third-worst turnover rate in Division I and turned the ball over 22 times.
That sloppiness played a role in the Redhawks clawing back in the second half. UWM led by as many as 22 after coming out of the intermission with a 7-0 run but allowed the Redhawks to draw as close at eight with less than five minutes to go.
"I think they're starting to figure out that if we get shots, we're pretty good," Lundy said. "We just can't hurt ourselves. We get sped up quickly. It's part of the process of this system. Defensively, you're pressuring full-court and you got to learn to do that without fouling. Then, offensively, we're playing fast and you've got to learn to do that without giving the other team the ball."
Ahmad Rand’s putback dunk – one of three highlight dunks for the high-flier – snapped a streak of 6 minutes 6 seconds without a field goal. The basket righted the ship for UWM, which scored 10 points over its next five possessions to regain a commanding lead.
Freeman finished with a game-high 23 points on 8-for-18 shooting, Thomas added 19 points and 13 rebounds and Markeith Browning II (12 points) Elijah Jamison (11) rounded out the double-digit scorers for the Panthers.
Freeman's ability to get his own shot, whether driving to the rim or posting up smaller guards, was critical to the Panthers offense whenever the game slowed in the half-court.
"It was really huge," Lundy said. "He had a couple times where he did what we call 'Barkley'd' his way into the post. He's gotten so much better. He's slowed himself down. He's making all his reads and he's pretty slippery in there."

The strategy to hire a collegiate head coach with a proven track record of success is looking pretty decent right now, do ya think?

The strategy to hire a collegiate head coach with a proven track record of success is looking pretty decent right now, do ya think? This is a hill I would have totally died on. I almost went crazy when people were talking about Pearls kid. Just because dad is a good coach doesn’t mean the kid will be (see UWGB). Also, just because someone was an assistant at a good program doesn’t mean sh*t. What’s your previous head coaching record/experience. From now on that’s all we should care about. I hope Bart sticks around forever, but when he leaves, let’s not F it up.

Exactly Buppie. Bart Lundy's time here will be limited to whenever the next better opportunity comes along, especially if it's from the Carolinas region. But that's OK. Amanda needs to keep an eye out for the next current successful head coach who like Lundy, has WINNER written on his forehead, starting yesterday. It should be part of her, and her eventual successors', daily regimen for a program like ours.

Sucks that after Lundy wins 3 games in a row we have to start talking about his successor lol. But it is the nature of a mid major program. Perhaps a possible option is current assistant Jake Williams - head coaching experience, plus is now familiar with MKE.

If Lundy likes it here and we are winning, who knows, he could stick around for a while ala Mark Few and others. It’s clear we have something. Watching the offense and defense is night and day vs last year.

Watching the offense and defense is night and day vs last year. That is certainly the hope! And I think there is a good chance of it, he was loyal to Queens and did a boatload of winning there before he eventually left. I have to believe he had d1 offers throughout those years and turned them down. Hopefully he will follow the same path here, do a bunch of winning before deciding to go elsewhere

In today's environment, I would gladly take 3 years. More that that would be an awesome bonus. Regardless how long he stays, hopefully those in charge now understand the hiring strategy that works here.

I have called out others for derailing game posts in the past. I did that here. Sorry about that.
The point I wanted to make with all this is let's enjoy what we have now. These last four games (the peer opponent ones) have been so fun to watch. I am also enjoying seeing the enthusiasm that is infectiously growing on this board.
Loving every minute! Go Panthers!
