The answer I got on the day game was it was done last year on December 23rd and had a nice business crowd. So, they tried it again. The box score read 1,813. I was surprised it wasn't listed above 2,000. The Westside of the arena had tons of people. Based on what I saw on TV, this was one of the rare times in any venue when the reported attendance did not appear inflated. This is true. Was very close to 2,000 in the building. Which sounds bad... Until you remember that we had games with less than 200 souls in Panther Arena last season. It'll take a true trusting, hard working, communicative, supportive/collaborative culture forming, and a true PG (I believe in our candidates but they have to protect the ball and find the passing lanes). We have the post on š already. I think once we have a winner we could see attendance back in the 3,000+ range and if we advance in the NCAAs again, 5000+ range People here in Milwaukee and Milwaukee County (high percentage of whom are Milwaukee grads)-- They are starving for an entertaining Winner š. Especially after the COVID isolation, ppl want good memories in public places again. Resurgence in Panther sentiment around MKE almost happened last year but obviously petered out after PBJ injury and subsequent disappointing fallout and so never fully materialized. But guys, all of the elements (other than AD and Chancellor commitment) are there for Milwaukee to ascend to a better conference (MVC- it's an open secret) and become a household name. It takes consistent winning. Based on yesterday's L we've gotta a lot more work to do. Cut down these mistakes and play as a team. That 1-on-1 crap is no different than what we've seen the past 6 years (and that style of "NBA offense" doesn't ever work in NCAA hoops). I'm pissed. But always: go panthers. Stack good days. Stack WINS.

One last thing, we didn't play horrible. But we can be a team who easily beats St. Thomas caliber teams.
The most mystifying part of yesterday's game is, if you were to look at the Box Score and only see the Team and Player stats (no score), you'd be justified in thinking the Panthers won this game.
It's just nuts. 50+% with 9 triples and a huge advantage on the glass, as well as nearly identical other team stats vs. St. Thomas, and we lose?

Green Bay has seen huge crowds since they started recruiting more local. Only 2 guys on the rostter that touch the state of Wisconsin or are from Wisconsin You really didnāt get the sarcasmā¦ If your main focus on players is where they are from you will never win games and then the fans will never show up. Recruit good players idgaf where they come from.

I live out of state and came in for the game on Wednesday. A couple of things:
1. St Thomas did a great job clogging the middle, even though we had significantly better rebounds.
2. Stark difference in play vs PJB (which may not be saying much on some levels but still...)
3. Lots of St Thomas fans/alumni/families of players in the stands. Two of their players are from Brookfield and three more are from the northern/western suburbs of Chicago.
4. Even though smaller crowd and TDAY break, great to see pep band, cheerleaders, dance squad, and game stoppage contests. Fairly decent game day experience.

Per the Star Tribune, the university anticipates the entire project ā including demolition, as well as design and construction of the new building ā will cost about $175 million. Administrators said they hope to raise at least $131 million from donations, more than half of which has already been donated by the Andersons. Completion is being targeted for fall of 2025. Capacity will be approximately 4,000 to 6,000 depending on the event.
Being in a big market I could see St Thomas move up quickly, probably to the MVC within the next few years.

Also, I will continue to say it. We should not leave the Horizon. Why? If the goal is to make the NCAA tournament every year(and that should be the goal) why would we want to go to the MVC?

I've always liked your glass half full approach Buppie! You make great points. Whatever situation we are in depends on how we frame it in our own minds. The Arena is special in it's own right. The Horizon League is quite competitive and after bottoming out last year may be on an upward trend. Yet, it is winnable each and every year. How would we like it if we were in the WCC and had no chance against the likes of Gonzaga?

Sure, let's stay in the HL and be a 15 or 16 seed for perpetuity, and get railed by Kansas, UNC, or Kentucky every year! Fun!
Give me a break...

Sure, let's stay in the HL and be a 15 or 16 seed for perpetuity, and get railed by Kansas, UNC, or Kentucky every year! Fun! Give me a break... Or, dominate the HL, strive for maybe a 13 or 14 seed*, compete with the likes of Kansas as we have done in the past and return to relevance. Given the state of the program and mid-major non-conference scheduling today, I would call that fun, yes. The Milwaukee program is what is is right now. We all would like it to advance. The program needs to prove itself on a consistent basis before that happens, on and off the court. Buppie chooses to look for the positives wherever he can find them. So do I. And the Arena should be appreciated for what it is. The fuller it gets, the easier it is to do that. *Not likely this year, but doable in future seasons with better non-conference schedules, continued HL improvement and/or helpful upsets in mid-major conference tournaments.

Donāt get me wrong, I love the Arena. I was impressed with that donation amount. Iām not sure about the Horizon. Has the Horizon ever gotten 2 teams in the tourney? Will it ever? Is this conference as good as it was 10 years ago? If UWM gave a sales pitch to the MVC years ago, that means our administration was interested.
