$175k is not insurmountable. $175k is what Will Ryan is making in GB. Crazy to think how much more bang for their buck NW Missouri St is getting.

Frankly, there is no reason why McCollum shouldn't be hired. He is clearly the best candidate out of the ones that have been mentioned for this job. But we will see...

It's not a matter of what McCollum is being paid now. It's a matter of what another program is willing to pay.

It's not a matter of what McCollum is being paid now. It's a matter of what another program is willing to pay. UMass alumni and fans have been pouring into their AD's inbox that McCollum has to be the guy for them. I think if the money's close enough, we've got a better opportunity. Building a winner in the Horizon League is not going to be a hard job right now.

Building a winner in the Horizon League is not going to be a hard job right now. I’ve heard some pretty prominent names floated for that job. Question, has Ben McCollum always been this popular? Given his track record, why the sudden interest now? Or have bigger schools come calling and he just chose to stay ?

McCollum's most realistic chances at a D-I job in this cycle are Milwaukee and Omaha. He's a Midwest guy. I don't see UMass hiring a coach that has no Northeast ties.
McCollum has had D-I interest in the past. He turned down the UMKC job. The biggest hurdle he's had with trying to get a solid D-I job is that he doesn't have the D-I ties like a lot of other coaches do.
With that said, he would be a great coach for Milwaukee. And they should hire him the day after the Northwest Missouri season ends.

McCollum would be a great get. He plays the kind of basketball that attracts fans. I don’t think there are many players on the current roster that fit his style. Maybe Devon Hanc***, Sinani, and possibly Newby can play it. That is no reason not to offer him. It is a reason for getting him. He and Shaka Smart are friends. The rivalry could be renewed. Get his wife to see the campus and The East Side. It is the only way. Get to his wife Amanda!
