Lena Taylor. She wanted to make sure Jeter was replaced with an African American. The best coach available for the position wasn't the first priority. Lena Taylor's saber-rattling led to Lavall Jordan's hiring, not Pat Baldwin's. So, with regards to Jordan, you're absolutely right. Which still lead to Pat Baldwin.

Why would Bucky give a damn how good or bad we are? They are an elite program, that is basically penciled into the tournament every year . We... aren't. In fact we're about as far away from them, success wise, as the Earth is from Planet Nine ( about 100 billion miles at the closest). They are constantly at or near the top in their conference, we're an afterthought in our own conference. And why is that? Agreed. We can’t blame Bucky for everything. The little brother can’t keep blaming the big brother, once they’re both adults. We had 2 chances to get into the MVC and went 0-2. I can understand losing out to the Chicago market but Valpo? That’s on Braun. 100%. So going 0-2 with the MVC, not even considering football at every opportunity and making the wrong hires.........well we deserve to be where we are.

Not sold on the football idea, but spot-on with the rest, DD. In many respects, it feels that the train won't be stopping in these parts for a long, long time.

Loyola is in the MVC spot that should have been ours. Andy Geiger was a Jon LeCrone plant that was put upon an inexperienced Mike Lovell, and the Valley went bye bye. Had Paul Plinkse been the AD, as he should have been, we'd be there. Not having football is directly because of Bucky. Read Klotsche's book.

Not sold on the football idea, In terms of what? Unless I'm misreading it, Dave seems to be suggesting that we SHOULD have football.

I'm perfectly fine with no football and always will be. I think Hockey would be MUCH more beneficial (and a lot more successful) for UWM than football ever would be as would properly investing in and managing the men's basketball program.

Well either Braun or the MVC commissioners seemed to think we had a shot. We probably failed to take them to Major Goolsby's before a Buck$ game which would have been the no-brainer thing to do.. www.tmj4.com/sports/report-uw-milwaukee-considering-move-to-missouri-valley-confererenceIn a non-Bizzaro world version of Milwaukee Athletics, we'd merely have to be patient. As recently as this Fall I became convinced that it is only a matter of time that Murray State and Milwaukee get into the MVC (above article recounts how they were going to originally expand to 12 anyway... with both schools being final candidates). I'm still convinced about Murray State's conference future..

I think we should have both. WI is OBVIOUSLY a big state for hockey...but the football talent could easily support another school as well. UW's insane walk-on program, the WIAC and even NDSU are largely as successful as they are bc there isn't a second D-I team.

I mean it took us how long to get a 7 Million dollar practice facility approved, and a football stadium would probably be what, 75 Mil? It makes no sense why we don't have hockey, relatively cheap to start, unreal talent in the state, hockey fans in the state and we already have an awesome arena for hockey that literally has our name on it. It's shocking to me that neither UWM nor MU have a Division 1 hockey team.

Oh sorry I don't think we should *add* football at this point.
I think we should've...well, never dropped it. But after that, should've added it forever ago.

Hockey. We have the facility. Talent is available all over the country. Five years ago at a men's hockey game at Northern Michigan I recall the roster was roughly one third from California. Apparently hockey is big in California but not in college so they export a lot of talent. And that season, NMU beat Bucky twice.

She directly lead to Jordan's hiring, but let's be honest, after that there was no way in hell UWM was going to hire anyone but an African American coach in fear of Taylor making another publicity stunt. Bucky can hire all the white male coaches it wants and no one will say anything. But UWM is expected to be affirmative action compliant.

Nowadays there is tons of talent in places like Cali, AZ, Texas, Florida all thanks to the NHL being there and former players staying in the area. There are also very few college programs in those areas. Now would be the ideal time to jump into mens hockey and it's idiotic that we haven't. We are in a unique spot that we are in a hockey loving state with not much competition for fans, could have a program in an actual city which is rare for NCAA hockey in this region and the kids would get to play in a top of the line AHL rink. If run properly (which I don't have much faith in with this University Administration), we could have a very solid program very quickly. Will always blow my mind that we don't have mens hockey.
