This was an important win (assuming the "season" is played to its conclusion), as we are now 10% done with this tournament-like experiment and the Brewers gained a split on their season-opening road trip. My best guess is that it will take a .500 record to qualify for a playoff berth. Perhaps Yeli will be hitting by then.

most likely. every game matters more this season, and theres more room for error, as theres 3 more tournament spots.

I'm going over the wild card era and seeing what seasons the brewers would have made the playoffs unde the 8 team format, and who their opponent would have been
1996 80-82 (8th seed) (would have played 1 seed Cleveland) 1997 78-83 (8th seed) (would have played 1 seed Baltimore) 2007 83-79 (6th seed) (would have played 3 seed Chicago) 2012 83-79 (7th seed) (would have played 2 seed Cincinnati) 2014 82-80 (7th seed) (would have played 2 seed LA Dodgers) 2017 86-76 (5th seed) (would have played 4 seed Arizona)
In 2017 we would have gotten the higher seed over Colorado , even though they had the better record, because we finished second in our division and they finished 3rd in theirs. we would have only gotten the 2nd place seeding twice in 2007 and 2017.

Time to sit Yelich for a game or two? See, I told you so! Signed, Yu Darvish

Time to sit Yelich for a game or two? See, I told you so! Signed, Yu Darvish Is that ever the truth! From now on, I'll always err on the side of not spending money. It's just like a good friend of mine once said: "Watch. Fielder will sign a lucrative long-term deal ... and he'll only play a year or two!" Wow!!!

NOT good news on the baseball/sports front, fellas! I'd be very surprised if they get through ANY season not played in a bubble!!!

Brewers will play a doubleheader Sunday , with both games being 7 innings. That's what I have been told.

When the new schedule came out we were asked here for predictions - how many games the Brewers would win this season. I was thinking to myself at the time the more appropriate question was how many games would they play. That seems like an even more appropriate question right now. I hope they can somehow safely pull off the entire planned season and post-season. Meanwhile I don't understand how new virus cases in Wisconsin continue to stay at only about 1,000/day. Large gatherings like this one at Plymouth Dirt Track last night continue to be held in the state. www.facebook.com/AllStarCircuitofChampions/videos/314653236388388While attendance was not announced, it is obvious from the video the grandstand was packed. Only the lower rows are shown. Those are the least desirable at a short track, which means at least a near full house. The winner, Kyle Larsen (yes, the former NASCAR driver) took home the winners share of the largest purse for a sprint car race ever in Wisconsin, which is more evidence of a packed house. There were 41 competitors in the top division. Typically, each competitor has multiple team members. They and their equipment pack into a relatively small pit area (I've been there multiple times). Some of the competitors have been traveling the country to race multiple times each week since late May. Similar events have taken place in Wisconsin at Wilmot, Beaver Dam, New Richmond, etc. And that is just one class in one sport. Meanwhile, here in Arizona, we have not had any large gatherings whatsoever since March, except for one campaign rally by an incumbent US president. Nevertheless, we have been stuck at an average of about 3,000 new cases for the last few weeks. Additionally, since mandates were placed over one month ago, Arizonans have been much more compliant with public face mask wearing (nearly 100% from what I am seeing) than what I have been hearing about in Wisconsin. This virus is hard to figure out, which makes any activity outside of a solid bubble, very difficult to contain. Hey MLB, NFL and NCAA, are you getting more nervous?

Is this MLB players fault for doing reckless things. Milkman are not in a bubble. Things have been smooth since July 5th.

There is NO WAY major league baseball will last another week. Should have stayed in a bubble in Florida and/or Arizona.

Most players would opt out if playing outside in Arizona. July was the hottest July on record, and the forecast for at least early August calls for more of the same heat. Just look at tonight's hourly forecast here in Goodyear. Game-time temp at 7 pm would be 109 degrees dropping to a soothing 100 degrees by 10 pm. And now that we are in monsoon season, humidity is picking up into the low 30 percent range. Just another summer night in the desert. Playing in these conditions night in and night out would be brutal. It is done in the AZ Rookie League, but today's major athletes are too pampered and financially secure carry on under such circumstances. Chase Field could only host a limited amount of games. Florida's rain and humidity, combined with spring training sites being spread out, would present other challenges.
With more players and less available quality playing sites in close proximity of each other, I do not know how a baseball bubble could result in a full safe season with the top level players.
