Padres lead 3-0 after 5. a padres win puts the Brewers in the drivers seat tomorrow. a win, and the Brewers are in.Lose, and well they could still get in with a Giants L.

thats right. a brewers win would also force the Cardinals to play a doubleheader against Detroit on Monday. The result of those games would determine the seeding .

So here's how the NL will be sorted out on Sunday:
The winner of the Brewers-Cardinals game is in. The Giants are in if they beat the Padres, and the Brewers lose to the Cardinals. If the Brewers lose to the Cardinals, they're still in if the Giants lose.

If the Brewers win, we won't know until Monday what their seed will be, because the Cardinals will have 2 more games to make up. We also have to keep an eye on the Phillies , a Brewers loss would require Philadelphia to lose as well , alongside the Giants losing, to get in.

we can get as high as the 7th seed, in 2 scenarios. first: we win, Reds lose and Giants lose. Second: we Win, giants win and the Cardinals lose the opener Monday. all other scenarios have us as the 8 seed.

By my calculation, I believe there is a scenario in which if the Brewers win today, they could be a 5 or 6 seed. If the Brewers, Reds and Cardinals all finish .500, a head to head tiebreaker would favor the Brewers (11-9) over the Cardinals (10-10) and Reds (9-11). If the Marlins lose today they would also be .500, and a tiebreaker would then be necessary between them and the Brewers to determine the 5th and 6th seeds. Am I missing something here?
Of course, the most important thing is for the Brewers to win today. Counting on both the Phillies and Giants to lose again would be asking alot, especially since their opponents' priority is on preparing for the postseason rather than winning what for them are meaningless games.
I'm at a high level of nervousness already. All for a chance to get on the bracket sheet and play at least two tournament games.

Brett Anderson's numbers against some of the Cardinals hitters have not been good. For example, Paul Goldschmidt has owned him with something like 8-14 and 2 HRs. Gulp!
Gomber pitches for StL today. The Brewers historically struggle against good young pitchers who they have rarely faced and we've barely heard of. Gulp!
Nick, please no mid-game jinx's today.
OK, here we go!

So two key Brewer starters exit the Cardinals series early with injuries. Cost Burnes 4 runs on Thursday and Anderson 2.
