i cant see UWM being an attractive addition at this point. MVC took Valpo and in doing so lopped off our strongest remaining school ( in terms of performance in the Big Dance), we replaced them with IUPUI, who instills fear in precisely nobody What has Valpo done in the Big Dance? Nothing, other than win a game on a buzzer beater to make an unlikely Sweet 16 run 20 years ago. That's it. The idea that they were some vaunted program is a total smoke and mirror show. That is a fact.

Just wondering if fans of the league are too embarrassed or upset to post or discuss our final combined non-league record for the year.

You're jumping the gun. The league still has a chance for two big wins on Friday! CSU v MSU and YSU v IU!
Sarcasm aside, the "positive" of the league's demise is that it's almost impossible to imagine a scenario short of injuries where we don't win at least 12 games in conference. Ten of the eighteen games on the schedule are against teams that literally haven't shown a pulse (YSU, CSU, IUPUI, UWGB and UDM). Another two are against the abysmally coached UIC. And none of the "top" teams (NKU, OU, WSU) are even close to the quality of most past HL champs. All are beatable.
Given that byes have disappeared from the HLT, it doesn't actually matter a lot where we finish, if it's not first. So that has to be the goal. I would guess 14 wins would do it. Maybe even 13. Does a conference champ that loses its tournament still get an NIT invite? A conference championship is its own reward, even this year, but that would be a lucky strike extra.

Pretty sure the NIT rule hasn't changed for conf. winners who lose in the conf. Tournament.

I'll be getting to the HL's updated non-conf #'s later tonight, but I do want to quickly lament that if MKE had the 3pt WMU and 4pt Montana State home losses back, they'd be around 50th in the RPI.
Crazy to think how close this still young MKE team is to being that highly ranked entering HL play, And with a 1st year coach, no less. Bummer. Because that's really worth some seed lines if this team does make the dance in March.

Let's hope those wins against Iowa State and Loyola are enough to keep us out of the First Four. 18-0 in conference and the conference tourney by themselves probably wouldn't be enough at this point, and no one will go 18-0.

Given MKE's respectable OOC showing, I think they'd have to finish the HL regular season mid-pack (or worse) to end up with a poor enough resume to get sent to Dayton for the lowest 16v16 First Four games. But you never know how the other low major conferences will play out.
As of Wed 12/27/17 Horizon League - 28th of 32 in Division I (up 1 position from 6 days ago)
RPI - Team - Rec - D1 non-conf games left 91 OAK (8-5) - 0 (up 2) 137 MKE (6-5) - 0 (down 53) 139 NKU (5-5) - 0 (up 7) 142 WSU (6-5) - 0 (up 46) 242 DET (2-9) - 0 (down 19) 294 IUPUI (1-8) - 0 (down 11) 319 GB (2-8) - 0 (down 7) 326 UIC (3-8) - 0 (down 7) 330 CSU (2-9) - 1 (up 4; @8 Michigan State) 347 YSU (0-10) - 1 (up 1; @125 Indiana)
35-72 (.327) (2-7 record since 6 days ago) 2 games left - 0 home, 2 road.

do they still have the 1 and 2 seeds playing on day 2? if so, then counter-intuitively, finishing 3-6, would actually be better, as we wouldn't have to play the first 2 days. the 3-6 games are treated like the old byes.

This whole new hybrid tournament format gives me a headache. Can we just have our old tournament back?
