Fran
Kokomo and Chicago State likely next two additions to our vaunted league.

When we join the WIAC, at least we know the competition will be better.

Night and night seeing most of the league losing, really blows.

When we join the WIAC, at least we know the competition will be better. That’s complete hyperbole, dylan. I think you meant to say the crowds would be bigger.

Oakland hosts Towson tonight, who sits with an RPI of 36. That's a good win now if they get it, but I can't imagine Towson will be within walking distance of the Top 50 by the end of the Colonial season.

The league actually has a great chance to pick up a win this week as IUPUI plays Indiana-Kokomo on Friday! Let's go to Kokomo.....

Not our conference or problem but I wish Evansville's RPI would suffer more after that embarrassing loss to Duke. There should be more of a punishment for crapping the bed like that.

Good point ... and I'll bet that their RPI jumped significantly just for playing the game. It's one of the RPI's inherent faults. The flip side of the formula is exactly why I'm not too excited about our present rating.

Oakland (7-5, #93 RPI) picked up the HL's first win in something like 10+ tries, besting #38 Towson (8-2) by 9pts.
NKU (5-5 #146) continues to look like one of the hardest-luck teams in the nation, losing @ #10 Texas A&M by 6pts, to go along with 2pt losses to Memphis and Vermont, and a 1pt loss at UMBC.
Outside of MKE, OAK, NKU, and possibly WSU, the rest of the HL is in absolute shambles. Literally the worst bottom half (60%, actually) of any conference in college basketball.
As has been well-documented over the years, this all started when LeCrone and the rest of the HL's administrators placed other priorities ahead of competitiveness in men's basketball and admitted YSU in 2001, while failing to institute any type of MBB scheduling mandates for members as every other mid-major conference in America was. Now, the damage is done, and final. The best thing MKE can now do is get out, ASAP.
As of Thur 12/21/17 Horizon League - 29th of 32 in Division I
RPI - Team - Rec - D1 non-conf games left 84 MKE (6-4) - 1 (204 WMU) 93 OAK (7-5) - 1 (166 EMU) 146 NKU (5-5) - 0 188 WSU (5-5) - 1 (@222 Georgia Tech) 261 DET (2-8) - 1 (134 Murray State) 283 IUPUI (1-8) - 0 312 GB (2-6) - 2 (214 Bowling Green, @77 Uw-Madison) 319 UIC (3-7) - 1 (@216 NIU) 334 CSU (2-7) - 3 (@61 Cincinnati, 195 Toledo, @6 Michigan State) 348 YSU (0-10) - 1 (@137 Indiana)
33-65 (.337) 11 games left - 5 home, 6 road.

On tonight's ledger, we have CSU at Cincinnati, Bowling Green at Green Bay, and UIC at Northern Illinois.
It's not setting the bar too high to expect wins from Green Bay and UIC tonight. They need to get the job done.

Make that not cleared x2, as UIC also loses at NIU. Three games, with two winnable ones, and not a thing to show for them.

Each HL team has one remaining non-con game (except NKU, which I think is done). Tonight's matches between OU and EMU, and UWM and WMU -- games against two mediocre Mid-American teams -- are essentially the only possible wins remaining for the league (other than the big IUPUI-Kokomo match). (By the way, anyone remember when the HL was a better league than the Mid-American. Like, you know, the entire period between 2007 and 2014.)
SRT, nobody could possibly disagree with your suggestion that we should get out of this league. But here's the problem. Who the HELL would want us? We literally can't put 1,000 real ticket buying fans in the seats, our flagship men's BB program has been completely unstable ever since our AD blew everything up on 3/17/16, and even most of the rest of our program outside men's BB has slipped dramatically from the days when we dominated a good league.
In 2011 we won a great league and filled the Arena for the HL champ game. The rest of our program was solid. But our AD situation was a nightmare. THAT's when we should have been looking, and when we should have been attractive to better leagues. But through serial administrative malpractice we have watched as the few other good programs in the league (and one that was downright lousy) moved on while we were stuck in the mud. Not just stuck, in fact, but sinking into it.
You get what you deserve, and the way our University has run our program we have done just that.

i cant see UWM being an attractive addition at this point. MVC took Valpo and in doing so lopped off our strongest remaining school ( in terms of performance in the Big Dance), we replaced them with IUPUI, who instills fear in precisely nobody
