Oh please. You are entitled to your opinion but I don't need to read the play by play. I was at the game, twenty feet behind the bench. Our guys weren't panicking -- GB just made some good plays. Rob has an experienced team with a good point guard. It's just as legitimate a strategy to trust them to stop the bleeding as to "come to their rescue" with a timeout. No matter which way that plays out the armchair coaches on one side or the other can criticize what the coach didn't do in retrospect. GB showed again tonight they can go on a run very fast. My observation about Drew was obviously tongue in cheek but in reality it was just the same as in our game yesterday. Drew has an experienced team with a good point guard. He made the same calculation as Rob and GB got the better of him. If you could replay it exactly the same way ten times it would probably work out to about 50/50 as to what was the right call. FWIW, I meant read the pbp of tonight's Valpo game. Drew stopped runs of 8 and 6 with timeouts. He didnt wait until a 6 point lead vanished into a 6 point deficit in about 2 minutes.

I just watched that game and GB threw a 10 point run on VU that turned the game around and that Drew didn't stop with a timeout.

Nooe. Regulation. And btw, a timeout taken in what turns out to be the middle of a run proves something, doesn't it?

So you guys are arguing about when or when not to call a time out?
As if that magically fixes shooting 30% including 22% from 3.
Another good stat ... 34-16 points in the paint.
Doesn't matter much what a coach says when the players shoot like that.
What are you supposed to do? Tell your players to shoot better?

No -- I'm arguing that criticizing a coach for not taking OR taking a timeout during a run is just post facto rationalizing.

Shouldnt the coach draw something up to get a good shot instead of just letting his players continually bomb away from 3?

Seems to be just what Wright State is doing at the moment. Fire Billy Donlon!
Oh wait, they're winning. Fire Greg Kampe!

Everyone including me a little sore and raw after way this ended. Got to say however that MuPanther hit it on the head. Whether timeouts are called or not is not the main issue here. The issue is how many times have we over the years lost close games rather than winning. Over and over again we do not seemed like a calm, poised confident team in clutch situations. How many times have it come down to the end and we can not run a decent in bounds pass much less a decent shot without throwing the ball away or turning it over. I have also heard Chad who I love say on post game shows we lost our composure, this and that, appreciate his honesty but ...well at some point where is the accountability for that ? Coaching does not matter? Anyway, maybe we can just stop all this and give Rob a lifetime contract as we have a lousy situation which he is doing his best in, no chance of anyone doing better so why try, that is fine. Frankly, a lot of the questions raised about retaining or replacing are not based on one game, one timeout etc but the body of work...would I trade Rob for Darner or Drew? They are not perfect but in a heartbeat. Rob is a wonderful person so that is what it is all about more than results...lets just keep on keeping on...hey if we win 20 somehow through scheduling but finish 5th in conference and out, dream of CTI every year but run a clean program under a class guy, question though...is only time ever on academic probation under who's watch? Did that ever happen before but I digress...like I said I will renew season tickets next year if Rob is retained . Just saying lets know what we have which is just ok...if just ok is fine good...with lack of practice facility, budgetary constraints , administrative support etc no one could possibly do better or maybe even as well... so lifetime contract even better if that is the consensus here...at least maybe 10 yr extension so he can recruit...recruiting has been so fantastic on his part all these years with those extensions....lets strive for what we have and know..much safer....rather plod like a turtle than take a chance to soar like an eagle

Steve, the problem with your premise is that with no ties to this university, Linc or Bryce would likely hop the first train out of town.
GB will soon be going on its third coach in seven years.
Is this the way to build a program? Keep in mind that the Phoenix haven't been to the Big Dance since 1995.

Paul, I do not disagree...life of a mid major..guess it is either or , black or white...either we run an unstable program if we get a coach who excels but will then leave for sure....or opt for what we have however old and stale it gets....fine...maybe we just accept we are what we are...if we strive for something higher it will crash in two years and we will not go to a big dance in 20 years like GB....really??? It is that definite?? If we change coaches we end up up running a program like that?? Would like to think we can do a bit better than GB with the right hire and retain a bit longer...oh well..

Or you know, GB did just beat Valpo.
Maybe we simply lost to a team playing very well right now and at the right time?
I believe GB also plays some pretty good D, with two players on the All-D team.
Which is something we had trouble doing all year.

What I do know is that this program had five 20-win seasons in Division 1 before 2005-06 ... and it's had five 20-win seasons since.
Maybe it's not ideal here, witness FOUR chancellors and SIX athletics directors since 2008-09 and our never-ending facilities issues, but it's not bad.
Rob is 12-8 in the HLT; until this year, Green Bay was 7-13 since the eradication of the Green Bay Way.
Now there's a new sheriff in town, but he's likely only there at most for another year. What are the odds that MEG hits another home run like this? One in five?
And about recruiting? Historian D. Kelly and I have assessed that 14 of the top 25 players in this program since 1990-91 have been recruited by Rob and his staff. I'm not informed enough to assess motivation and strategy, but the continued condemnation of our recruiting baffles me.

Paul
Know where you are coming from ...maybe you are more of a glass half full person than I am...the thing is if we compare results vs UWM prior that is very underwhelming sample and basis to base comparison against. I would compare to what is possible or desired....we used to play in Baker Fieldhouse so anything going forward would be better than that...what a fantsstic job...no need for anything else to be done..see what I am saying?
