No surprise that the double bye provides a tremendous advantage. OU may also get a slight kick for the location of the tournament, but I will be curious to see how many fans they really bring to the Joe for the semi. They can barely sell out the O-rena for their biggest games, and it's the smallest house in the H League.

When the tournament was the old format, I believe we received free tickets to games. The only time I recall paying for tickets was when the tournament was at the Cell and we lost to Butler in the finals after beating Valpo in the Semis.

I just called the ticket office ...
They're running out of bus passes, but they have more Little Caesar's than they know what to do with.

Also, my Facebook newsfeed used to have promotions for game tickets up to 40% off! They went from 20% to 40% in about a week. Remember, Olympia's original projection was for a total of 35k in attendance

I just called the ticket office ... They're running out of bus passes, but they have more Little Caesar's than they know what to do with. This must be the fruits of the gigantic payoff promised by the folks who pitched this format to the league: your member schools can make the tickets free to their students....and we'll have an old-fashioned pep-rally sendoff for the finalists!

In all seriousness the fact that there are apparently no fan events scheduled for the weekend leads me to believe that the HL and the event sponsors already know what we have been predicting ever since this absurd format change was announced: that the attendance at those games will be truly abysmal. I assume they may try to prop up the house with free ticket giveaways or busloads of schoolkids or something, but that will be nothing more than lipstick on a pig. I hope I'm wrong -- but I doubt it.
I will be there on Saturday (and Sunday if we win Saturday) and I will take some pictures and give an honest report about the attendance.

It's absolutely crazy that the entire tournament is taking place in a full-size arena. There may well be a few thousand people at the final, especially if Valpo or Oakland are involved, but the idea that thousands and thousands of people would buy three different sets of tickets and an entire weekend of hotels for a mid-major tournament is incredible. None of the universities in this league have a real base of wealthy alumni.

Well, no reason for me to take photos now. That picture will probably be fine for the weekend. Not a lot of Horizon League signage. Much heavier on "Motor City Madness" and "Detroit." Gosh, it almost makes you feel like Olympia is hedging its bets and hoping that the mighty MAC comes calling, doesn't it? We can only hope...
