No. Way.
And the editors allowed it to run?

Generally, it's a very good column.
A couple of things that aren't nit-picky:
1, The characterization of our school as a "commuter college" is flatly inaccurate. There are 14,000 students who live on and directly around campus. I see them all the time and especially every weekend. In my yard.
2, Gary needs to take a look around the college basketball landscape and witness the problems that most programs not named Duke, Kentucky, Kansas or North Carolina have in drawing fans, especially during football season. Were there even 4,000 in the building for the game at Notre Dame? Were there 100 students?
3, How on God's green earth is anyone supposed to draw for SIU Edwardsville, Trinity International and Judson. Many of the issues facing a program like ours in getting games have already been chronicled here. Add in the fact that the athletics administration mandates that the team plays 13 home dates "for season ticket holders" and you've really got a problem.
All in all, though, a very good read!

Well done except for the truly ridiculous "commuter school" reference. There are nearly twice as many Milwaukee students living on campus or in campus neighborhoods as the other D1 school in town HAS students. Gary, UWM hasn't been a commuter school in this millennium.
That quibble aside it's about time someone at the JS noticed that we have the best team in the city -- again.

The ticket office is behind with Brian Morgan gone. The rest are working hard, but it's tough with your main person gone. They need to fill that spot and get an extra body in the ticket office.

I doubt the ticket personnel have the ability to change the website on the fly. The bottom line is that it gives the phone number of the ticket office if anyone wants to call for tickets. And as far as that goes, if you want tickets for a single game, just come to the Arena. There's not a bad seat in our house, and as noted in the article, it's the best sports buy in town.

Looks like someone took care of this issue. Very happy to see someone at the ticket office was all over this. The ticket office needs to do a better job of keeping the site up to date. Technology today makes updating websites very quick and easy to do. A couple of years ago I ran into an issue when purchasing season tickets for first time... It was sometime in August/September and all they had was information on the previous years tickets.
Our site also currently does not list the promotions for the current year. If you go under the promotions tab they are all for the 14-15 season. I do not see any mentions for the buy one get one free ticket special going on for Thursday's game. This is the kind of stuff that needs to be on there.
While it is much easier to just walk up to the box office and purchase tickets the fact is most people purchase tickets to events online. We need to get with the times & make it easier for people to purchase Panther tickets.

We were just told not a year ago, it was an old building that needed to be torn down to make way for a new arena. That the city didn't need an old 11k seat arena when we had a brand new and wonderful palace in the works.

Looks like someone took care of this issue. Very happy to see someone at the ticket office was all over this. Does anyone here have a JSOnline login to post comments? Can you go to the article and post something in the comments section letting people know the website is fixed now? EDIT: I see Matt just did post something over there.

I forgot my log-in, but I got it to work. I never read the comments on JSOnline, unless you like hitting your head on a wall or drinking motor oil. I had to look since there was over 10 comments.

To Gary, Mike, Jeff, Rick, et al:
Thank you very much for your article on the Milwaukee Panthers!
Where have you been? We missed you.
Feel free to take some photos ... and run them.

Another fair question for Gary would have been "How can you expect us to draw casual fans when the local newspaper either ignores us entirely (you can't send a beat reporter to Notre Dame, 2 hours away -- really!!??) or relegates us to interior pages as though we were lower division high school volleyball?"
We are, BY FAR, the biggest University in the area, we educate more students FROM WISCONSIN than ANY University in the state, and on the basketball side we have been to the NCAA tournament 4 times in 14 years, a record the majority of D1 schools would KILL for. You would think the JS, hemorrhaging readers violently, would understand that promoting our program (with fair COVERAGE -- that's all I'm asking for) makes eminent good sense. You would think.
Anyway, that's the question that could have been fairly asked. I'm feeling charitable today given Gary's column. So I'll not ask it. I'll just point out that it could be fairly asked.

I would encourage all Panther fans who have the time to write a quick email to Jeff & Gary over at JS to thank them for the article. It's very important that the media hears how much this coverage means to our program.
