Green Bay can't sellout a semifinal home game vs Milwaukee on a Saturday yet they'll all go to Detroit on a Tuesday? Alrighty...
This is a terrible example. Everybody knows GB doesn't play on the second Tuesday of the HL tournament...as a GB fan this self rip only hurts because it is usually true.

In the mean time, I still want answers from Amanda on wtf she's thinking. In short, our administrators have some serious explaining to do. They do realize that we hosted the thing for five out of nine years from 2003-2011, right? All this angst over naming rights for The Arena was misspent. The university effectively just surrendered the place in March to the circus, Disney on Ice and Motocross. It was first and goal at the 1 ... and we punted.

How cool would this have sounded?
"A capacity crowd of over 10,000 strong has descended upon UWM Panther Arena tonight for the Horizon League tournament championship game between the Valparaiso Crusaders and the top-seeded Milwaukee Panthers!"

www.detroitnews.com/story/sports/college/2015/05/07/jla-to-host-horizon-league-basketball-tournament/70957924/"That's welcomed news for ESPN, which retains the rights to broadcast the championship game — and figures to be much more likely to put the final on ESPN rather than ESPN2 if there's not a bunch of empty seats, like there often is when the game is held at a campus site." Dafuq did I just read? According to this reporter, this new format will lessen the chances of having empty seats for the conference tournament finale, which apparently happened "often" under the old format from 2003-2014 when played at a campus site. WOW that's some inaccurate journalism right there. I think this writer needs to have some conference championship pictures emailed to them, stat. It sure looks as if it's actually the Horizon League front office that is selling this line of bullsh*t to the media (or is every reporter covering this story just magically identically factually challenged?). If it is the Horizon League, that means they're willing to say anything, no matter how dishonest or factually inaccurate, to get this new format to go over well. As we all know from our lovely politicians, when someone in power is willing to make up anything to get a deal passed, there must be an awful lot of money at stake. That begs the question, just what kind of sweetheart deal did Lecrone and company get for themselves from Olympia Entertainment and the city of Detroit, if they are willing to lie to/mislead the media about past conference tournament attendance to promote this?

I hear that the tournament is going to be nine games conducted over nine days.
Here's a wacky, off-the-wall, mind-blowing, Krameresque suggestion:
Since it's in one place, how about staging it on, let's say, a Wednesday through Saturday?
I know, I know. I'm a quixotic dreamer.

This letter from Rob is amusing.
He appears enthusiastic about the addition of Northern Kentucky, but somewhere south of lukewarm about the move of the league tournament to Detroit. It reads something like this:
"The Horizon League announced that it's moving the league tournament to Detroit, I guess. There's nothing we could really do to prevent it, as it was approved by our presidents and chancellors. Oh, well."

So did Chancellor Mone seek any input from the folks most directly affected?

So did Chancellor Mone seek any input from the folks most directly affected? That doesn't appear to be the case.

I really wish that I could be at the golf outing on Monday.
This would be my first question of Amanda ... and my second and third.
Did you vote for this and if so what was the thinking behind it?

Wow! Oakland will have four league games broadcast on either ESPN2 or ESPNU this season. What a sweetheart of a deal! With their collection of all-stars and Greg Kampe at the helm, they're probably ready to dominate the league!

The Horizon League tournament format reportedly has been modified: first-round games will now be held on Saturday, quarterfinals on Sunday, semifinals on Monday and the championship on Tuesday.
As Fran would say, slightly mitigated damage.
